Here's an interesting new review of Polestar 1:

I agree with much of the assessment there, but I disagree with the questioning at the end of the purpose of Polestar 1. I like the Polestar 1 concept because it is NOT a BEV -- for those of us who like PHEVs, because we want to do long-distance trips without having to deal with the hassles of the current poor public-charging infrastructure. And what's nice about Polestar 1 is the large battery pack, which is at the forefront of PHEVs in all-electric range -- meaning most people like me could use this car for virtually all local driving (to work, shopping, errands, going out, etc.) on all-electric mode.

What sucks is its price tag and it's small size -- not practical for much other than just driving around. Put this pack into a Cross Country wagon, and I'll gladly shell out $70k for it. The current line-up of Volvo PHEVs is a joke, with their puny 11-kWh battery packs and 12-15 miles of real-world all-electric range (I've tested them all). Polestar: please do what Volvo cannot do, and give us a practical 4-door PHEV that has 50-60 miles of all-electric range.

I agree with you @cometguy I think there's still a purpose for performance PHEVs, especially while places slowly develop their charging infrastructure. PHEV's give a perfect balance of performance when you want it and range for long trips.
