I loved the loaded P2 I rented over the Christmas break but the car rental agency (Enterprise) basically told me there was zero demand for the P2. Nobody wanted it. I rented it for $190/week with my corporate rate. That location gets $188/day for a Grand Cherokee.

Enterprise will probably dump P2s from their fleet.

Where are people finding bargain basement Polestars? Two friends are interested and I mentioned this to them but they couldn’t find any deals.

looking at autotrader or polestar.com I’m seeing pricing of $45-55k depending on the exact specs and mileage. That’s little different then it was a few months ago.
I will ask a friend with a dealer license to check the auction markets. He can buy the car for me and I suspect that's where the best deals will be found.

If rental car agencies are unloading them... then there will be availability. Car dealers are probably seeing them as falling knives and not bidding on them. There are a dozen P2s near me and they've been sitting on lots for 6-8 months unsold.

Wow, no answer from @voxel to the request for links to those P2’s sitting on dealers lots for several months, then this post from another newish user and an immediate ‘like’ from @voxel. Does anyone else smell something odd here?
Really? Just search cars.com and autotrader.com and look at the price drop history. In fact, some have been sitting more than a few months...

EDIT: Here is the first one I clicked on

I'm going to buy one when they hit $40K - which they will in 2023.

FYI I also owned a bunch of Teslas and Mach-E (four of each but long story...) and also vastly prefer BlueCruise to the crappy Tesla Autopilot system. Never owned a Polestar 2 but want one for the track only. Zero interest in using it as a daily or road trip car. The range is terrible, the audio system is mediocre, and the interior is cheap - I rented a fully loaded P2 in Austin for 10 days. My current daily is a BMW i4 and I would not downgrade to a P2... but for the track.. the P2 is perfect. Prices just need to keep falling and I will snag one!

The car you listed does not have the pilot or plus pack, which may be the reason for the price. See pics from the listing below. It looks to be a base DM variant with added Space color which, as of now, starts at at $54.5k, and that's because 2023 saw a price increase over 2022. Not saying the depreciation isn't disappointing, but just wanted to point this out.

No Pilot Pack - I could tell because it does not have fog lights

No Plus Pack - I could tell because it doesn't full power seats and the interior seat and accent trim is base

Again, it was the first one I clicked on. I've seen fully loaded ones in the low 50s yesterday but didn't save the links. I'm looking for further price drops as supply increases (via rental agencies dumping cars after certain miles).

Can't say I agree with you on the interior, that was one of the things that made the P2 attractive to me over both Tesla and the Mach-E (Tesla feels like a Lego kit to me....). I do agree the range is not great and as for using it on the track, not sure it's a great tool for that but then I have a 911 as well so guess that taints my view a little.
I just want to track an EV... otherwise I'd get a BMW M3 or Audi RS3 something like that.

As for interior... it's okay. The fully loaded one I drove for 10 days had the $4K Nappa Leather option and it's probably a tad nicer than Teslas and the Mach-E but I still prefer the BMW i4 interior. The rest of the P2 hard surface interior... I didn't care for. What I loved was how it drove on the streets. I even took it on a parade lap around Circuit of America.

The Mach-E GTPE interior is a toucher nicer over the lower trims but I hated it on the track. I autocrossed both an i4 eDrive and M50 and though they were too squirrely and primarily setup to be highway cruisers (zero bolstering, you need to upgrade to summer performance tires which kills range, M50 is $76K loaded, M50 is over 5000lbs and quite heavy on turns).

Basically my only other option is a Model 3 Performance for the track and I have zero interest in one.

I wish I could rent a Kona (or similar -- like P2) for $190/week.

Yup. It was an insane deal I couldn’t pass up. They truly did not want it. Said a Tesla owner whose car needed body work had it booked (the day I picked up the P2) via insurance and that person declined it. I rented it twice and received the same “get this car off the lot” attitude from multiple employees. I was happy to oblige,

Buying a p2 for track use sounds like a horrible idea. Just get a brz or Miata for way less money and get a car actually suited for track

You can take a Toyota sienna to the track too, doesn't mean it's a good idea 😂
I track all my EVs regardless if it’s a good idea or not. I don’t want a Miata or Boxster or Z06 like everybody else has. I tracked my MINI electric and had a blast with that.

Now that the Model 3 Performance is basically high 40s… it’s tempting to pick one up but I’d rather have a P2 Performance at $40K. Maybe I will buy that P2 I rented when Enterprise dumps it lol.

Something still smells fishy here. Because a buddy of mine runs the IT shop at Avis/Budget and he said he all EVs rent at their premium/elite level. He also said that the vast majority of them are in CA and a Polestar probably wound up in Texas because someone did a one way rental. Otherwise there's little EV rental demand there.
Hertz Austin had numerous Teslas that were $100ish a day. Turo also had a few Tesla available around where I stayed.

As for Enterprise, they had two P2s at that location. I saw about 5 Polestars (might have been the same 2-3) while driving around and almost no other EVs other than Teslas. I think Polestar has a location in Austin too.

I was generally surprised at the low number of EVs in Austin. In Florida, my guess is 2% of all cars. Every minute you will see an EV.

I'm not sure where your "receipt" came from, or how, but rent-a-wreck doesn't rent cars for $200/week.
I had corporate discount for the rental for a cheapo standard car (see the billing code) but they didn’t want the Polestar 2 on the lot so they gave that to me.

Longer story, I rented a premium SUV for the first few days in mid Dec to attend a Ford Bronco event but swapped that Grand Cherokee rental for the Polestar 2 (which they didn’t want). The Polestar sat unrented for the few days after I returned it and so when I needed a car for a week they were happy to unload it.

My 3 year out low mileage Subie is also worth 50% less than it’s purchase price. I think the market is just returning to normal. There maybe some over correction but I don’t think it’s much yet.
Which is weird because Subarus have one of the highest resales. An Outback only loses 12% in 3 years

EVs depreciate badly. That's why VW and Ford wrote leases with crazy low RVs (approx 50%) compared to their gas cars. So ICE cars depreciate 20-25% in 3 years but EVs depreciate twice that. Off-Lease Cars: What Are The Best Deals? - iSeeCars.com

This is insane. If it were really the case historically I'd be a lot richer today as I've been leasing cars for a long, long time and 3 year residuals are no where near 75% even for MBs. 60% residuals are considered very good.
Yeah the recent few years has probably messed up data. It should be 35% plus.

Yes, I'm sure it was an eyesore that was ruining their business 🙄

More likely they were happy for you to have it because they don't rent many $100/day cars and would rather keep the Nissans around because they need more of them to support daily demand.
Maybe.

So a Redditor also rented it for sub $200/week (he says he messed up the title in a comment)

I’m not the only one with the great deal. Cheap EV rentals may spur renters to buy or consider an EV.
