And before your Polestar....?

Apologies if this has been done before, but I'm curious about the people who choose Polestar as a brand. I've come from Alfa Romeo, (Giulia) so we always identify with other slightly left-field choices such as Volvo, Saab (in the day) Lancia (back when...), Citroën, even Jaguar. What did Polestar owners have before and what made you change? Just curious. 🤔

My list of prior vehicles runs the gamut and would be way to long to list here. The vehicle which my PS2 replaced was a 2014 Porsche Panamera hybrid. The Porsche was a beauty but plagued with costly repairs and issues.

In spirit, my PS2 reminds me a lot of my former1991 (I think) Alfa 164s.

Just the EV's:

2015 E-golf (lemon buy back by VW)
2016 MB 250b (lease return)
2018 E-golf (lease return)
2021 Bolt EUV (GM buy back due to recall)
2022 Polestar

Of the bunch, the P2 is the best for feel, looks and driving.

I've always been a Volvo guy. Have had a ton of the rare models (S80 V8, XC90 V8, S60R, V70R, etc.). The Polestar replaced my daily though, the last of the US VW diesels - 2015 Golf Sportwagen TDI SEL manual.

Our list:

1997 BMW M3/4 (still have this, purchased new)
2001 Nissan Maxima (my then girlfriend/now wife's car, purchased used) - Sold
2011 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited (will be selling, purchased new)
2017 Subaru Legacy 3.6R Limited (totaled in flood, purchased new to replace the Maxima), replaced by:
2018 BMW X3 M40i (purchased CPO in 2021)
2022 Polestar 2 PPP+ (purchased CPO), replacing Outback

We were looking to replace the Outback and originally were looking at a Hyundai Palisade, Subaru Ascent and a Kia Telluride. We were pretty close on getting the Palisade but then when Tesla dropped their prices coupled with the EV credits, we started looking at EVs, starting with the Tesla 3/Y. We didn't like the interior and not having an instrument cluster did not sit well with us. We looked at the Subaru Solterra and it was pretty decent. But then we tried the Polestar 2 and we loved it. Got a great deal at the time on a CPO so we took the plunge. The P2 is our daily driver. I commute to work 3 times a week (and my company installed free EV chargers, my wife is twice a month so pretty much works from home. The BMW X3 will be our long distance car and the dog hauler. The Outback goes up for sale.

2003 Honda Accord
2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid (boring AF - traded in after a few months without a loss)

2007 BMW 330xi (stick, first premium car)
2013 BMW 128i (euro delivery, built on my birthday, still have it)
2018 BMW 330xiT (lease, loved the wagon, boring engine, hate pumping filthy gas)

19 Alfa’s, a few Benz’s and BMW’s, one Land Rover (‘96 Disco V8 - awesome in the bush, thirsty as heck around town!), and I’ll admit to a ‘98 V70 T2.5, which was a really good car.

Oh - 3 911's as well. Forgot those.

Last one was a 2018 BMW i3 REX. Gave it to my dad, perfect for his 60-70 mile commute. Also never got HOV lane stickers on it…and apparently those come in handy with I-80 traffic.

My first car was a 2002 VW Polo 1.2 3-cyl. Basic but was a great little thing, survived me and my two brothers learning to drive on it. Next I briefly had a 2007 Ford Focus estate with the 1.6 diesel, which was a complete nightmare and I had to take the dealership to court to get them to buy it back. I then briefly used a hand-me-down 1997 Peugeot 306.

I then was able to get newer more reliable cars, and got a 2016 Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI, brand new. I loved that car, it was rock solid in the 3 years I had it. I replaced it with a 2019 Seat Ibiza 1.0 TSI, which was also great. Did 52k miles in 3 years with that car, again was faultless apart from one time the seatbelt reminder wouldn't shut off, but that error cleared by itself.

I started a new job in August last year which would let me get a car through salary sacrifice, and it's quite a tax efficient way to do it here in the UK, so jumped at the chance to get the Polestar.
