Most UK DC chargers now accept contactless payment so apps are not so necessary now. Electroverse has good coverage if you just want to do everything in one place and not worry about if they are contactless or not.

I have an Electroverse card/app and it charges my Octopus home energy account. I'm not sure it's possible to get a card if you're not an Octopus customer, which a visitor to the UK won't be (I assume).

Having said that, I've only used it once because, as you rightly say, most UK public chargers (well, all the ones I've ever used) accept standard contactless visa/mastercards, so there's really no need to worry about having multiple charging cards/apps when travelling around the UK. Thank goodness.
