To demonstrate what two motivated developers free from corporational constraints can achieve with AAOS, let me introduce you to 'Car Stats Viewer', a development from two members of the german forum:
Vehicle Gadget Gas Audio equipment Machine

Development started 4 weeks ago with new releases every other day. The app is distributed through Googles beta program, which is unfortunately limited to 100 slots. We just opened the third beta channel after 2*100 slots filled up.

Source code is available on Github, so if anyone wants to fork, deploy and open up another beta channel, he is more than welcome. Participation through pull requests is also possible, of course. I18n comes to mind immediatly.

Amazing!!

No bandwidth for side projects at the moment so can't hope to be actually useful.

Some thoughts just based on the screen cap and not knowing any German beyond South Park:

  • meter (e.g. a yellow line?) for non-propulsion-related kW/kWh consumption (i.e. telling how much is taken by HVAC, battery thermal management, etc vs making the car go)
  • Way to log data to give more replete info than the Journey log?
  • Is that a charging meter up there on top right, currently unpopulated?
  • Add current battery charge level (by kWh/total or %) somewhere?
  • Freedom units toggle for us Free folk

To add to polerad's list - battery temperature would be great if that data can be pulled. I was hoping the Car Scanner app could pull it but the developer doesn't have the P*2 profile in the app nor Volvo cousins.
At the moment I'm just grateful someone is working on a app that may actually be useful :)

  • meter (e.g. a yellow line?) for non-propulsion-related kW/kWh consumption (i.e. telling how much is taken by HVAC, battery thermal management, etc vs making the car go) [and]
  • battery temperature
    • Not available or accessible through the public API
  • Way to log data to give more replete info than the Journey log?
    • Logging is currently being implemented using JSON
  • Is that a charging meter up there on top right, currently unpopulated?
    • No, it's a placeholder for estimated range. The app has a dedicated charging screen:
Gadget Font Technology Electronic device Display device

Becomes active when plugged in. Unfortunately only of limited use as AAOS goes to sleep a couple of mins after leaving the car.
  • Add current battery charge level (by kWh/total or %) somewhere?
    • Available in the dash, redundant information
  • Freedom units toggle for us Free folk
    • It's Open Source. Feel free to add/contribute what you want.

This looks amazing! Looking forward to it becoming available.

I haven't checked on the Polestar 2, but the C40 has an option to keep the system active after leaving the car. If that option exists in the Polestar 2, would that keep AAOS awake?

Nice. I got it running in the Android Studio Emulator. How does one go about getting another closed beta channel and getting this running on my P2?
For the current track you need to submit the mail address of your Google account in this form: Car Stats Viewer: Test Track #3

After I have added you to the track (Might take a few hours - depending on how often I check for new submissions) you can install the app via this link: Sign in - Google Accounts

To create your own track you need to register as Google Play Developer. This costs 25USD once.

Afterwards you need to build the app with a different package ID and upload it to the Google Play console.
From there you are also able to add new users to the internal testing track.

Hi everyone,

I am the creator of the Car Stats Viewer app. I'm honored to see the word being spread over here as well :D

As it is already very time consuming to manage all the feedback in the german forum i won't have the time to give this thread the same ammount of attention. But I will have a look over here every once in a while. If anyone has an idea for a feature or finds a bug I recommend opening an issue over at GitHub. That will be much easier for me to organize and keep track of. Also please have a look at the other issues over there to see if anything has already been asked, reported or suggested.

Is it realistic to get an app approved for the store as an individual or small dev team? I can imagine you have to jump through thousands of hoops to get your code deployed in a car.

There are multiple apps publicly available (EVMap, AudioWagon ...) developed by single developers or at least being open source. Those, however, fit inside Google app restrictions for cars. Currently only media, navigtation and POI-Apps are allowed. I don't know how these verifications work on Googles end though.

Another way is publishing an app through Polestar (ABRP, Vivaldi), wich do not match Googles guidelines. Polestar as the manufacturer can however overrule those guidelines. Sadly, there is no documentation on how to contact anybody at Polestar for this and customer support said they can not give me any contact information regarding app developement.

Maybe one day. The admin of the german forum already said Polestar is aware of my app. Who knows. Maybe they will get in touch with me at some point.

Installed the app today! It looks really good and reminds me of the consumption statistics of my previous car!

Do you think it's possible to add an altitude plot as well (change between speed / altitude)?

Keep up the good work and if you want me to run any particular test just let me know!

Is currently only German available? If i18n is not too much work, I consider adding an English and/or Dutch version.
