Coolant System Dumped all Coolant

1017 Views 19 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  FarOut
Had my PS 13 days and this morning at the gym found that there was coolant (green colour) all over the ground under the car.

I looked under and it was dripping out of the engine bay. There was a line of it on the road and in the carpark so definitely from my car. The warning about a coolant service came up.

I drove home...only a couple of kilometres and it continued dumping coolant in my driveway. There was also a noise like a long beep every ten seconds for a couple of minutes.

Called Polestar support who send around roadside support. The tank was almost empty. He did a pressure test on the coolant tank and nothing was coming out and we couldn't see or hear any leaks but there was coolant all over place near the tank so he thinks the pump might have blown.

Getting towed in the morning to service centre.

Checked forums and couldn't find anything like this mentioned.

A least it seems very rare! But sad for you!
please keep us informed of how it goes!
Yeah I’ve been on (all of) the forums almost 2 years now and don’t think I’ve seen this before.

very interesting. Could you please post a copy of the work order once it’s done? Curious as to what something like this would cost out of warranty.

Sorry to hear this OP!
My car has been at Volvo for a week. A pin hole caused all the coolant to be lost. Apparently it has leaked onto the batteries. Part has been ordered from Sweden. Usually 5 day delivery.
Polestar have sorted me a week long loaner from Enterprise- a Vauxhall Grandland X hybrid.
Unfortunately I have had a bit of work carried out on this car under warranty. In my experience, no paperwork will be handed over.

In the Us I’ve always gotten paperwork. But just double checked and the prices for everything were $0 (parts and labor).

I suspect mine will be something similar.

Not a great experience so far.

PS Assist told me to call back monday morning for a tow. They would send paperwork through to the service centre so they knew it was coming and what the issue is. So I called the next morning and they arranged a tilt tray to take it to a Volvo centre near me. Got a call half an hour later from Polestar Assist saying that the centre would not let them unload as they couldn't service Polestars there. She asked me where I wanted it to go to. I said I don't know and if she was from Polestar then she should know. She said she was just the outsourced provider. I asked if she had called Polestar and the woman told me that wasn't her job. She conceded that she should do and called back a few minutes later saying it was going to go to another Volvo place further away.

A few hours later I get a phone call from the second Volvo centre asking me why my car had been dropped off!!!

I let him know about the coolant issue and asked if he'd had anything sent through from support system and read the logs of the job. Nothing had come through but he said he'd talk to the service manager and have a look at the car.

Feeling extremely frustrated by now...I called Polestar Support and asked what was going on....no record of my problems in their system. No record of my calls and the car being towed. He took all my details and apologised and would get onto it. I asked for an email with the service job number etc but haven't received that yet...about 16 hours later.

It seems where I am that Polestar Assist is just an outsourced provider which makes sense but the process for sharing information between that provider and Polestar has yet to be worked out. Not feeling great about the whole process so far.

Update...called PS this morning and the car has been inspected and the fault found. A dodgy split coolant hose...so good news it's nothing major. Bad news is new hose comes from Sweden and will take 1-2 weeks. They're paying for a hire car for me which I have already picked up.

Thank for the update, pity about their comms performance.
My car is ready! Just in time for our family holiday to Devon
Hello there...

Interesting, I have mine since Feb 17 and made 15 000 Km. I got a small puddle of coolant under my P2 + Coolant service message around the beginning of April and went to a workshop. They filled around 1 liter and told me it that it was may be not well purged at the factory. Well one week later I got the Service coolant message again and the shop made some pressurized check for a day. The coolant distribution plate is slightly leaking. They ordered a new one that will be replaced this Friday.

I was wondering if I was alone in this situation but it seems that we are at least two.

Not a great club to be part of!!!

At least yours wasn't sudden though...so that's something

Well that was stupid wasn't it? How could they possibly in good faith have attributed the puddle of coolant on the floor to the system not being purged properly... Very poor service...

They should have done this the first time!

Mine was a pin sized leak in a hose which caused coolant to spray directly onto something battery related (I forgot the name).
The coolant warning is not to be underestimated. A lack of battery coolant will cause the car to shut down to protect itself, in my case on a busy roundabout!

Well, I resumed the situation here, but I also park an old camaro sometime on the same spot so I wasn't sure it was my brand-new EV or my old rusty (not really rusty but you get the picture) thrid gen camaro. And the workshop told me it can have been just badly purged but that we should keep an eye on that and they were also mentioning a very small leak that they weren't able to find other a day.

Sure I am glad it's a tiny leak.
After being without my car for almost 2 weeks while it was at Volvo, I got home this evening and the boot only opened half way. Then wouldn’t close. It’s already had the struts replaced a couple of months ago. I’m (finally) getting close to admitting my car is a piece of crap. Thank goodness it’s still under warranty

Update: took the hire car back and Polestar have given me a loan vehicle. A big standard long range single motor. Mine has pilot pack and 20" rims and strangely enough I like mine a bit more. I didn't think pilot pack would be that.much of a gap but it is.

Spoke to the manager and it looks like the coolant hose was nipped/cut during install process and just blew under a little bit of pressure.

Glad it happened close to home and not 100km away.

The saga continues...

I opened the glovebox of the loaned polestar this morning and the registration and insurance papers were there. I noted that they expired yesterday.

It's Saturday here today so I rang polestar support who advised they will pay the rego and insurance on Monday and not to drive the car until they call me.

Character building! But it’s a good idea to follow their advice and not drive it till paid. The coppers here with their automatic plate scanners linked to the registration database are more than happy to stop you, fine you and then not let you drive off until it’s paid and checks as paid on their system. With CS, that could be a long wait by the side of the road…..
