Do I need to change the Amps setting for home charging and public charging? And why does my battery drain just sat in the drive?

So, I have only had my Polestar about 6 weeks and I love driving it, hate the fact that it doesn't have good cup holders or Android Auto, but in the last few days I have slightly more worrying issues.

The last couple of times when I have returned home after a long journey I have arrived home with, say, 5% charge in the battery. The next morning it says I now have only 2% charge...and yet all the car has done is sit on the driveway!

I have also had charging errors at home when it has not charged as expected. I have the car set up to charge during off-peak hours only so it isn't until the next morning that I discover the car has not charged at all and there has been a charging error. Very frustrating and inconvenient! Other times it charges fine. I am wondering if it has anything to do with setting up the amperage limit for charging? I have not had this before on my previous EV and I have no idea what the right setting I should have it in is and if that is the issue. I have a 7kw wall charger from PodPoint which has always worked just fine in the past. Anyone know a) what amperage limit I need to have it on and b) if this might be the cause of my charging errors?

hi congrats on the car, it is awesome.

The car arrived at your house with a 5% hot battery and as it cools it loses some % as the charge is so low. You really shouldn’t let the charge level drop below 10% it’s not good for the battery.

The charge amp setting leave it at 32amps no need to drop it, if your charger provides less the car will take what it gets, if more then the car won’t take more. The P2 is pretty smart in this sens

The charge error, make sure when plugging in the cable that the rubber cable for the ccs cover isn’t trapped between the cable and the AC port. The cable may lock but the fact the the cable is trapped will cause an error. Don’t have a pod point charger so can’t advise further on this.
 
Thanks for the comment. I may be new to the Polestar, but I have had an EV for the last 4 years and I have never encountered this before.

I did not have the climate set to come on at any stage, the battery just drained charge overnight.

Regarding the amperage setting this has been a new one on me. I didn't have the option to change settings with my last car, but I wondered if that was because it maxed out at about 75kW/hr whereas obviously the Polestar can handle more than this. If we don't need to change this setting the I wonder why it is there? Anyone got any thoughts on this?




No, it's not a joke. Obviously I didn't intend to leave it uncharged overnight, but the charge failed, hence the main reason for this post in the first place. But thanks for your valuable input.......



I don't know if maybe we have different terms of reference in the UK to the US, but here I would say we generally talk about chargers in terms of AC, DC and then kWs. Unfortunately I don't know how many amps my 7kW home charge AC point is, but I guess I am going to have to try and find out in case this is relevant.
7kwh is approx 32amps, I have a Ohme charger that states both figures on the display. The setting is there so you can restrict the flow of power to the car to reduce charging speed. It is useful where you get free parking as long the car is charging, or if the bug that released the cable once charge is finished returns.
 
Thanks. So this raises the question, why have they put this feature there if it is unnecessary and confusing for less technical people like myself?
lots of devices have features that are not used by majority of the people but are used by a few. Phones, tvs, tablets washing machines etc.

The car also has the ability schedule charging but I never use it as my charger has that ability and as @Bl4ckD0g stated it’s better to regulate charging from the charger than the car.
 
Instead of starting a new thread, I will post something that I’ve wondered about in this thread. At home, I have my Juicebox set at a maximum charge rate of 32 A, and in the car I think I have it set at whatever the maximum is. My friend told me it was fine to do that, because the charger would limit the amperage anyway.

95% of my charging is done at home, and 5% is done at DC fast chargers. Thanks for any input!
Nothing wrong with your settings. Leaving it at max in the car which I believe is 48amps in the us is fine when the EVSE is pumping in less.

The amp settings are mainly designed to stop the main fuse for the home from blowing when using with dumb chargers that have no load balancing capabilities. E.g. my home has a 60amp fuse so if I used my EVSE (if it was dumb) at full power, switched on the oven, washing machine microwave and tumble dryer the main fuse would blow. Knowing this I could reduce the amps to keep them below 60amps if I needed to use all them devices and charge the car at same time.
