Looking forward to hearing if this fixes the problem.

In the meantime, has anyone else had an issue with changing the WiFi password of the dashcam? It allows me to change it, and it works with the new password, but then when the car has been parked and I get back in, it's always reset itself to the default password (which means anyone who spots it's a Fitcamx can connect and download or delete footage). Not the end of the world, but it would be nice if it was a bit more secure!
Will definitely keep this thread updated. As far the the WiFi issue, I changed the password and the new password is sticking for me. Odd that yours keeps resetting back to the default password. When I upgraded the firmware, it did reset it back and I had to make sure to format the card so it doesn't keep resetting the firmware/wifi on each boot.

This may be one of the reasons the password keeps resetting?? Worth a try reformatting the card to make sure there are no firmware updates on there.

So with the new firmware, the loop recording appears to be working correctly however I have run into a new issue since I updated the camera. My wifi password no longer sticks and resets back to the default. Also any settings I change also change back to default. For example, I enabled the setting to record sound but on every reboot, that setting turns off too. I sent them another email to see what they say.

Have you reformatted your SD card after updating the firmware? - might be that it's trying to update every time when switched on and resetting your password - think I read something about this somewhere on this thread earlier?

Wow. That’s my Reddit post. The SD cards they provide are junk. Thought about trying to get them to provide a replacement but didn’t think it was worth the effort. I just went out and bought a new Samsung high endurance SD card for like $25.
I'm also having this issue. I noticed the supplied card wasn't that good and would get extremely hot so I replaced it with a Sandisk Extreme card. Even with the new card, my dashcam stopped recording after it got full. I reached out to fitcamx as well. Let's see what they say.
I'm curious what brand of SD cards you got with your FitcamX?

Mine came with a 128GB Samsung EVO Select, which I know isn't their best card but it is still Samsung. More trusted than some obscure off-brand card I was expecting.

I'm tempted to replace it with a SanDisk Extreme card, my preferred type of memory card, but I'm not sure if I'll need to if the Samsung is good enough. Did you also get the same Samsung card, or something different?

Really interesting. I updated the firmware on mine, and as soon as I'd done that, I formatted the SD card so it wouldn't apply the update again, and it still reset the WiFi password the next time I got into the car. However, I then went on a slightly longer drive, changed the password and the name of the WiFi, and the next time I got to the car the SSID and new password had remained. No idea if it was changing the name/SSID of the WiFi, or if it was the longer journey which might have charged up an internal battery in the dashcam that made the difference.

I've not yet filled the SD card up since I formatted it so I don't know if it will correctly overwrite the old files, but it won't be long (it's only 64GB). I did notice that one journey I did wasn't recorded, perhaps because at the start of the journey I'd gone into the app to see how much space was left on the SD card, and in doing so I think that stops the recording until you come out of that settings screen in the app (which I didn't do until the end of the journey).

Mine came with a generic no name card and I replaced it with a Sandisk Extreme.

It must be changing the SSID. I just got back from a 1400 mile road trip and reset the password during one of the longer drives and it still reset itself back to the default password. I'll try changing the SSID and see if the new password sticks with that.

So it turns out, my previous message about the sound setting reverting on each boot was incorrect. For whatever reason, the one clip I pulled didn't record any sound but all the other clips I have pulled since have sound and the setting is sticking.

Another couple of issues I have noticed:
  • Once the card fills up and it starts purging older files to loop record, pressing the "snapshot" button to lock a clip does not lock the clip. If I format the card and press that button, it locks the clips as expected
  • Ever since I updated the firmware, the live view no longer works for me. Not really a big deal since I don't ever use that, but still something interesting to note

How good is Fitcamx customer service? I purchased a Fitcamx for my Polestar 2 in July and let it set in the box until today. When I finally got around to installation, I found that the housing attachments did not match the Polestar slots and the part of the camera housing that slides into the cover behind the rearview mirror was substantially wider than the opening. Email was sent today asking for a replacement.

Forget this inquiry. I had a brain freeze. The installation was being done incorrectly. I received a fast reply from Fitcam pointing out the correct method of installing the dashcam.

hehehe been there and nearly done that, luckily I found the answer myself before I contacted their support. But yes I also thought I was given the wrong housing. All good, very happy 15k miles through rain, snow, hot sunshine and high speed travel...

I fitted my Fitcam some months ago and have almost forgotten about it as I've been fortunate not to have to need the footage but came across this thread so thought I would check if everything is still OK. Fortunately mine all appears to be working as expected, even with the 'no-name' 64GB card fitted (it did have a brand on it but can't remember exactly what it was). I was going to update the firmware as I generally like to be on top of these sorts of things but in this case I think I'll just let it do its stuff but will check a little more frequently.

I wonder if we're on different firmware versions. My box shipped with v20220416, and they sent me v20220718.
Now I'm on the July firmware everything seems to be working as it should (using the 64GB card they shipped with it)
  • Having changed the SSID and password these settings now save correctly
  • When the card fills up it deletes the oldest files and continues recording as it should
  • Live view works as intended
One thing I did notice - when you use the app to view the recordings or the settings, it pauses the recording, and if you then just lock your phone and drive off it will still be pausing the recording. Always worth going back to the live view before driving off just to make sure it's back to recording.

I am on a November firmware (v20221112). Their support suggested that after I set the wifi password in the app, to long press the power button on the camera to turn it off. Doing this actually saved the wifi password for me. My Live view also randomly started working again after not working for days.

This is good to know, I went into the app to save a file while I was in a parking lot and noticed when I drove back home, it didn't record anything after that so I must not have gone back to the live view.

All my issues seem to be fixed now other than the snapshot button to lock files does not work intermittently. I've narrowed it down to when it does and doesn't work. If the card fills up and the camera starts purging older files for the loop recording, that button does nothing. If I format the card, the snapshot button works until the card fills up again. I like being able to use that button to lock a file so I can easily find it rather than sifting through the videos.

Hi

I’ve just ordered the front and rear camera’s for my car. Could someone confirm whether it needs an SD card or micro SD card as I want to order a better a bigger (256g) card.

Thanks

Pete

I've got the front 4k only, and it's micro SD - I suspect yours will be too (I'm assuming only the front has the memory card because the rear is wired into it? 🤷‍♂️)
I've just stuck with the supplied card - it overwrites old footage when it gets full so I don't mind that it's not a large capacity.

Same here microSD. I don't see the need for a bigger card, it overwrites anyway and protects events. Mine just sits there as an extra insurance if/when one day I might need it.

You only need one micro SD card, the rear camera records to the same card as the front camera does

Just an FYI for anyone who can get the China version since it’s much cheaper, they work just fine with our cars. I had the 4K version with 1080p reverse camera brought over to Canada from China. Sold by fitcam on taobao. Came to $171cad ($127usd) which includes the 128gb Samsung card. Didn’t come with the quick connect Y-cable. The fuse taps didn’t fit so I had to buy and splice in micro2 fuse taps. Works just fine with FitDVR app, it actually doesn’t know the difference that I’m using the China version of the camera.

I don't know if this against the forum rules or not. Just saying to all UK peps who are looking to purchase Fitcamx, I am selling mine. New 4K front, HD back.
Reason for sale, got it as a gift, don't like to add things that are not original (crazy I know)

I added a post in the sale section if someone is interested
Thanks!!

I fitted the FitcamX three months ago, but only the front camera. About a month ago I had the rear camera fitted by a very competent chap who did a great job. Since having it fitted I notice my DAB radio reception has become very flaky, dropping out in areas I know worked just fine before the camera was fitted. Strange thing is, exactly the same thing happened with my Jaguar F Pace when I fitted the rear camera, this was a Nextbase camera though. Anyone else had similar?
