Looking at this Certified Pre Owned (CPO) Polestar 2 for sale for ~$25k USD. What would you advise?

I generated a summary of all the data I have so far from Carfax and vehicle service logs. Any other info you think I need? I didn't include the inspection checklist, but it mostly looks ok.

You can see it's had a significant amount of work done so far, but I don't know if that means it will need more of the same in the near future or if things have been taken care of and now it's near the bottom of the bathtub curve for more failures.

Carfax Vehicle Summary
2021 Polestar 2 Launch Edition - Electric AWD Hatchback
  • Plus, Pilot, Performance Package
  • Actual Mileage: ~28,000 miles
  • Last Reported: 10,000 miles (reporting gap since May 2023)
Ownership History
  • 2 Previous Owners - both commercial entities
  • Owner 1 (2021-2022): Rental vehicle in CA/OK
  • Owner 2 (2023-2025): Lease vehicle in CA
Key Points
  • Clean history - no accidents, damage, or title issues
  • Low reported mileage due to incomplete reporting since 2023
  • Previously rental/lease vehicle
  • No open recalls or warranty issues
The significant gap between reported mileage (9,943) and actual mileage (28,000) suggests the current/recent owner hasn't been reporting odometer readings to CARFAX, which is common but worth noting for valuation purposes.

Are we giving a numerical value?

Wow! I remember MY21 had issues but I didn't know they had that many. My MY22 had issues but nothing like that. Isn't there a saying like, "look at the past to predict the future"? Or something like that.

I don't know but I still feel MY23 onward is the sweet spot for a Polestar 2. It may be a bit more but your getting more.

Haha, oh, I don't know, I guess a yes or no? Sounds like you are saying no. I have thought of a 2023, though I may need to wait longer since I would like to stay under $30k. I would probably prefer a non performance if given a choice between two similar cars since it seems like so many people complain about the ride quality.

I like my P2 2022 PPP Napa but would never purchase it again. I purchased it used for $40k in 2023 with 10,000 miles and thought it was a great value. I looked into trading it for a P3 and polestar was offering me $20k. I have had next no issues and nothing replaced, only the same software/tcam all owner have to endure. My biggest problem with the car is cramped cabin and terrible range. Real world you are looking at 150 miles highway in US and 40 min charge times making road trips painful. For around town it’s pretty solid but there are better cars for this too.

That’s crazy how much the new cars are different! I hopped in my 2024 yesterday and drove 185 miles (mostly NYS Thruway, at the high end of traffic flow) and used less than 50% of the battery. 150 miles at freeway speeds where I was the one doing the passing, the rest 45mph or lower local roads. Overall efficiency of 23 kWh/100 mi. Therefore I’d recommend OP waiting for a 2024 if you want trip range!

I would skip this purchase and agree waiting on a 2024. To me that is the sweet spot. Basically no issues over all for the majority of people even on here. Single motor 320 miles plus. 24kwh /100 efficiency is pretty great.

That one too me just way too many repairs. How many more repairs will it need going forward. Something doesn't add up to me.

Good luck.

I wonder what vehicle number in the production line your vehicle is. I've heard that many of the cv axle issue shad to do with the grease used. Apparently they used the wrong grease and it become liquid like in consistency after a few thousand miles. Maybe after a few thousand vehicles built they corrected the issue.

For the performance edition with ohlins strut problems I've heard that has to do with the bushings being worn out, a quick replacing of the bushings solves the issue.

I'm crossing my fingers. I also have the 2021 p*2 launch edition. Got it at 45k miles for about 23500 out the door cash(tax and everything )with known cracked front camera, leaking windshield fluid which I repaired my self. The leaking windshield wiper fluid has to do with the quick connect they use to connect two tubes together instead of a spring lock type they use with other manufacturers.

The car has been good with your typical infotainment needing reboot about once a month. Other wise it drives well.
