I'm so glad I didn't get a Tesla

Let me apologize at the outset to any who happen to own one in addition to the P2, because I really, really didn't like the Model Y I rented for a trip. It was obviously roomy in the back, and I appreciate the efficiency and the charging network. But that common complaint about fit and finish—I get that, totally. This was a '22 with 24K miles, and the black trim around the windows was shockingly degraded. Granted, it was a rental, but the exterior seemed far too worn for a '22.

The doors had a hollow, unsatisfying clang when you shut them. The seats were comfortable enough, but the seat bases were covered with a thin, flexible piece of plastic. The side mirrors sounded like they were on their last legs when retracting. In the Florida heat the AC was too cold at 68 and too warm at 69. The suspension felt squishy, and the car had phantom rattles and squeaks. The smart wipers were kinda dumb, and the door handles were annoying after a while.

All the way around it felt like it had been slapped together. IMHO the P2 is just a way more premium vehicle.

The ICE vehicles, even the premium ones, all feel archaic.
I feel like I'm in a horse and buggy when I have to drive an ICE.

Driving my model y was actually frustrating and felt like an econobox at times because of the missing features that are present on a Chevy Bolt.
The '23 Bolt no longer feels like an econobox at all. And to think it's half the price of a TMY.

Wow I had no idea. I watched lots of video reviews and comparisons of Tesla & Polestar. None of this was mentioned, but Tesla always seemed to win because it was a bit more efficient 🤪. But cup holders? Sometimes 50% of reviews.
If Tesla didn't have more range than Polestar and it's own charging network, it would get crushed in every comparison hands down.

Tesla's magic is making people who never gave a damn about cars into fake car enthusiasts
This is spot on, and borne out by the various people I know with Teslas.

Volvo is pretty much a premium brand
Volvo has always been considered a "near" luxury brand. They were never able to completely compete head to head with the likes of MB, Audi, Lexus, etc.

I'm glad I did. Best car I've ever owned

And the amount of storage it has...

To store stuff? :)

Lol we know a car must be great when storage is the feature that gets mentioned 😂

Nobody tell him about minivans 😂

So what happened, did someone in a Tesla cut you off one day and hurt you're feelings? And they didn't apologize? I really can't tell the difference between you and those guys who ICE EV charging stations and think EV batteries are going to destroy the environment

I bought the Model Y to replace our Minivan, which btw costs me $70 per fill up (plus maint) per week while the Tesla costs me less than that per month to charge.

The Y is superior in every way to my Polestar (and yours), from tech, software, efficiency, performance, driving dynamics, comfort, suspension setup, and app access. I forgot price. Paid under $57k and some change out the door

But in the end, I have no problems with Tesla haters. That's you're right, and Im used to it hearing the same stuff from the anti EV crowd

It's an ugly vehicle, assembled poorly. The only thing good about Tesla is the charging network.

If you like it, that's great. Some people think Applebee's is fine dining, others just know the real truth

The p2 is certainly not the best car, but the Tesla is basically a mid 90s Hyundai

Really the Y is so ugly its a total deal breaker regardless

Imagine how much money you'd save if you kept the minivan? Gas is cheaper than a car payment and then at least you'd have some style. 😁

That's your opinion, which is fine and you have the right to have. I'm not going to argue with you on this because like the anti EV crowd, you're just going to keep repeating the same laughable talking points

BTW, I'm in no way upset with your views on Tesla. I have a special place in my heart for you as both of went through the same BDU adventure together (or misadventure) :)

A Tesla could be the best thing since sliced bread and I still wouldn't be caught dead driving one 😂

When I bought my Polestar to replace my Lexus IS350, I was excited and shared pictures of it, but to my dismay, a lot of my fellow Clublexus members in the IS sub forum where I spent 4 years seemed to lose that brotherly spirit we once had and called it the ugliest thing they ever saw. One member boldly used the phrase it's ugly AF. I just chalked it down to jealousy and moved on.... ;)
Largely irrelevant. I've had them all since 2.2, went onto 2.8 last week, but there has been no difference in the cars behaviour since new.
It's quick (not fast) in a straight line, and it's 2.3T of car, it's never going to light up my world in the corners. Add to the fact (as I've said many times) it's just a volvo in a pretty frock, there are better options for me out there and they may not be EV
well ours got very boring with 2.7, but found fun again with 2.8.
but dont know how it translate to DM.
I do think OPD is needed to really get fun out of our cars, and I do think that SM is a little bit more fun in the corners then DM, sry.
but basically the most importat thing is the right road! It comes alive on a very twisty road!
And those arent very common.

Don’t take what I say as a slight on the car, but it’s not what I would call fun. It’s a fantastic car, performs well, looks great, but when I compare it to my actual fun car, a GR Yaris Circuit, the P2 feels like a motorway cruiser. Take both cars down the same road, only one of them will make you smile, and I’m afraid, it’s not the car I’m considering selling.

We all have differing opinions on what we perceive to be fun, but comparing the P2 and the GR, I'm really not comparing like for like. The GR rotates on a sixpence with its Torsen LSD, holds far more G in the corners but is far less predictable, whereas the P2 veers more towards understeer, more so with TCS off, but it is still more pointy than almost all of its rivals in the market.

Ye I felt the same too, almost feel the same still even now. Don't know about the MY but the 3 drives wonderfully well, engaging and exciting. At 8/10s I find it to be truly excellent. When I test drove the M3 I was driving my Boxster (981 2.7 base boooo) and at any normal speed the M3 seemed just as engaging and had immediate throttle response. Wonderful thing. If you go hard the Tesla falls apart though, you can bottom out the suspension easily, composure disappears, etc. But you can't push that hard on public roads, so it's pretty ideal for real-world use. Also very little stability over 120-130mph 😬 Let's put it this way though, I sold the Boxster a while after getting the Tesla because I literally never drove it. Even more telling after 2yrs I still don't miss it.

Software (in the infotainment) is great too, albeit Netflix and Disney+ on mine are becoming unusable due to lag and audio sync problems. The problem is Musk. Removing radar, USS, lumbar... Basically the car gets functionally worse via software updates now and for no reason. Why take a fully functional car that someone already owns and make it no better than a Renault Clio base model? The radar is even coming back in the future, so it's a total waste. Basically all the self-driving stuff is slowly ruining the car, bit by bit. The new cars dropping off the stalks? Who needs stalks when the car drives itself? Oh wait...

I think in the US it's a little different. I wouldn't be surprised if there are less phantom brakes and the auto high beam works better. But in the UK it's becoming farcical on my car. The other problem is support, which seems to be same in US and UK where it's not the greatest. I fully appreciate it's probably even worse for Polestar in the US. But in the UK you can just go to Volvo (not all dealerships), and they're closer to me than Tesla too.

There is no perfect car, or we'd all have it. We all have different priorities and requirements, and that can vary substantially by location.

I'll be very interested what you think in 2 years time. For me, if I could roll back the updates to the last one before they dropped radar from the software I'd be a happy bunny still. But you can't, so I think it's an unsafe deathtrap that I can't even use cruise control every time I want to.

Oh, it was jealously 😉. The IS is not ugly, but it still looks like your generic Japanese car. Teslas are not the least bit good looking but garnered some interest when new and unique. But nothing gets the stares and comments like the P2 from people from all walks of life, from EV enthusiasts to soccer mom's to gear heads, white collar, blue collar. This car attracts attention.

I'm not the least bit surprised. Musk's "vision" was that the car be a self driving pod - thus no need for a real dash. And his "vision" supersedes anyone else's need for functionally, or even the companies profitability. Because when you get that rich you obviously know better than anyone else 🙄

You know I was just playing with you right? :) As far as the the guys in the IS forum, they were pure jealous with a tinge of hate. Anyway, I get that the looks of both the Y and 3 are polarizing and that many outright hate the looks. To me they look good, but that's not why I bought it. Purely a utilitarian vehicle my wife will mostly be driving, I will be using for trips etc. The Polestar IMO looks way, way better than the Y and the Model 3, hands down.

BTW, I disagree with you on the IS looks. I had the 2nd Gen which to me has a timeless look. It was a hard car for me to sell. Now the current gen, I hate the giant grill :(

Well obviously, but what specifically. I only keep stuff inside teh car strgae pockets I intend to use frequently. Thinking about it all I keep in the car on a permanent basis is a tyre pressure gauge and a few car charging RFID cards. So yes Teslas have loads of internal storage but what is the point?
