Keyless un/ locking not working: button on door handle, trunk

I took delivery recently and noticed some issues.

1. The keyless locking / unlocking via the button on the door handle does not work.

I read the manual and the dealer also sent me a video demonstrating the feature, but the doors simply do not respond.

Has anyone had this issue or ideas on how to resolve? Would PPF on the handle button possibly affect sensitivity? [Edit: handle sensor has no PPF. Installers left a cutout]

Possibly related, the keyless unlocking of the trunk via foot kick movement also does not work. Again, the dealer sent a video demonstrating the technique but I am unable to replicate results.

Everything works OK with the key fob but it would be nice not to need to take it out every time.

The dealer is aware of the issues, but since I am hundreds of miles away from the nearest Space, I hope someone can offer a solution.

I still very much like the car but these small annoyances on a new vehicle are not ideal.

Thanks for reading!

From what I've been told this had to do with a software issue / TCAM battery issue. Your TCAM battery may be defective. A quick fix is doing a TCAM reset.

Thanks for the link -this sounds like my issue(s) but unfortunately the fix seems applicable only for the Polestar 2 and my vehicle is the Polestar 1.

I would call Polestar support on Monday and hopefully they can assist.

It worked exactly once randomly but this was after the PPF; I figured there was a special setting or method until I read the user manual and realized something was wrong.

As to PPF, I double checked and they did in fact leave a cut out for the button so the sensor is not covered.

I've had the same problem, happens mostly when it is cold outside, but there is no sense to when it happens. Sometimes, I'll try the passenger door and it will work. Sometimes it is so bad I use my phone to unlock the car. it is utter nonsense, especially since they only give you one FOB with a button to open the car. AAAAArrrrrrrgggggg.

This have been an issue both locking and unlocking.

I have exactly the same problem : keyless not working, neither the doors nor the trunk
According to my dealer the kessless module was not reconnected when Polestar changed the battery pack (I bought the car used after battery change)
So in 2 days my car goes in to have that fixed

MacFever is right. I had exactly the same problem after the battery replace. Texted the tech and he had it fixed in 15 minutes once he had the car. He was a little embarrassed he missed it, but there are lots of connectors to deal with in the battery replacement.

My suggestion is to call the Volvo dealer doing the repair work (Spaces don't actually do any work - everything is done by a Volvo dealer in almost all locations - the Space should connect you up) and ask to talk to the tech (each Volvo dealer has only one tech certified for 1s - and only one service rep authorized to drive the 1s - the Space can probably give you his name). He might be able to walk you through the reconnection, as it seems pretty simple. Probably just one panel to pop off and then plug it in and put the panel back. Saves you a lot of time and hassle.

I was very happy when they finally opened in Houston. No more sending the car to LA or Austin.

The car is now at its first service appointment and they called to let me know they fixed the issue with the keyless.

I had a litany of minor problems so drove six hours to the nearest service center. Flew back to Chicago since we are waiting on a side mirror replacement (it was not returning to original position after reversing).

They advised that pretty much everything was fixed under warranty, so I would fly back once they finish and/or sooner if the side mirror is on backorder too long.

Might make a post on the service experience once all is done and the various issues addressed.

Why didn't you just let them closed trailer it back and forth? Takes a few extra days, but saves a lot of hassle. Unless they changed the rules, if you are more than 150 miles from a Space/service center, they are supposed to pick up the car and return it if under warranty. 1s are only supposed to be trailered in enclosed trailers.

I did it that way three times, once to LA and twice to Austin. Then they finally opened Houston.

The unfortunate situation is that it is highly unlikely you will ever get a local Space. This is because the Illinois Volvo dealers sued over the distribution model. I haven't checked on the status lately.

I called two dealers and spoke with Polestar support directly on the phone and via email, specifically requesting closed-container shipping. They all said that Polestar would only pay for the shipping if the car was undrivable, but not for service.

One dealer mentioned the rules had changed and encouraged me to contact Polestar direcly. Polestar themselves just regretfully(?) declined:

"After careful consultation with my team, I regret to inform you that we are unable to facilitate the coordination of the tow for service at this time. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and unfortunately, I cannot provide specific recommendations in this regard."

I had the car shipped from NYC when purchasing, but it was at my expense (~$1800) and anyway Polestar Manhattan's customer service was exemplary -I have no complaints whatsoever about them.

I could arrange shipping it back but the cost (excluding my time -ha!) is probably less to fly there and drive it back and I want to personally review everything was done to my satisfaction, at least this first time.

If anyone can connect with me with someone at Polestar who would approve shipping it, I would prefer to do that going forward for all future appointments.

As to local service, some local Volvo dealers have been positively frosty in refusing to even discuss Polestar for any reason, but the market is too large to ignore indefinitely if Polestar grows as a brand, I hope.

Ahh, starting to get stingy. Finding out that the 1s are a problem to maintain and shipping them around got expensive fast. I will check into when they changed when I get home in a few days.

The local Volvo dealers are very frosty because of the lawsuit. They took great offense at Polestar's direct model and sued. I will check on the lawsuit as well when I get home.

Had some time tonight. The complaint got settled back in late 2019 with the 10 complaining Volvo dealers being given the option of getting Spaces. Oak Park Autobarn is apparently one of the dealers. They cut a deal with the City of Oak Park for sales tax relief for a location at 1047 Garfield, just down the street. But latest news (6 months ago) is that nothing had happened yet.

Don't hold your breath in this EV environment. Plus Polestar has its own problems with the Volvo money tap getting shut off but Geely still open.

Again super late to some of the discussions but I have strong contacts with Polestar and the supporting organizations (not Volvo) for the 1. If you get stuck, send me a PM and I’ll do my best to get a dialogue to see how to proceed. Most of the work done to my car has been done in my garage and the people have traveled to me to do it. I’m not special, just got in early and had a lot of problems so I got to know several people. I’m in St. Louis and when my car has to leave me for service it always has gone to Detroit.
