Known issue on folding mirror?

Just had a problem with the folding mirror..

The folding mirror will go to and stuck in folded position when I reverse. And I had to manually fold and unfold the mirror to get the mirror back to normal driving position.

I restarted the center screen and it seems to resolve the issue for now.

Anybody else is having the same issue?

Happens to me from time to time. When the mirrors go haywire, I just hold down my driver memory button (I'm #2 in my family) and they go to where I expect them to be. It's slightly annoying, but an easy fix.

I find it more annoying when the auto-dip doesn't work when I go into reverse. My solution for that is to go back to Drive, then back to Reverse again. Works every time and only adds a few seconds.

I've had the same about 20-25% of the time with the
passenger side. Don't know if it will happen if I select both mirrors to dip with reverse. And selecting Forward and then back to Reverse seems to correct the problem.

I believe this was indeed a 2.1 or 2.2 issue, which polestar silently pushed a fix for to our cars; it got resolved without an “active” OTA update.

Would be interesting to the people who are currently facing this issue to post the software version they’re on?

I’m still stuck on 2.2 and don’t have it, not using the auto-tilt option to reverse.

I'm on whatever is the latest, 2.7 I think it is. I feel like I've had the issue since I got the car 2.5 years ago before the 1.* releases came out, so can't really pin down a release that caused it.

I had the exact same issue. At the local Volvo dealer they updated the mirror firmware. They told me, the OTA updates are not updating the mirror firmware thus it needed to update manually at the service (I don't know, if it is true). But finally they changed both mirror adjustment mechanism because there was not enough grease in it, and this caused some abrasion.

Interesting, thanks for the tip - I'll ask about this the next time I have it in. I find the service department knowledge to be very inconsistent so never feel great about their advice.

I'm on 2.7 and have never had this issue. I don't remember what version the car was on when I got it in May 2022, but I've installed all OTAs immediately after my car offered them, including that one that was halted (2.3? 2.4?).

I've never once had a problem with any of my mirrors in 2.5 years of ownership, whereas some people regularly have issues.

My belief is that this is a mechanical issue resulting in too much torque being needed and the software shutting things down to prevent motor damage. Where they say they have 'fixed' this in the past, I think they've just increased the maximum torque. Wonder if they've now hit the limit of this rather dirty 'fix'.

Suspect something just needs lubricating...

I don’t use the dip mirror for parking, don’t need to with 360 camera, and have never experienced an issue with folding or unfolding the mirrors.

One of the mirrors motors is slightly noisier than the other but it has to be very quiet to be heard.

I am only 2.7 and this is the first time it happened to me.

I didn't enable auto fold mirror, but auto dip on reverse on passenger side only.

I think those setting somehow messed up when I manually unfold the mirror while trying to reverse and the mirror auto dip.

Although the design is remarkably pathetic to begin with. Minuscule savings in width when folded, and the folding speed is glacial. I realised how poor it was when I picked up a new Kia, mirrors the size of barn doors that fold at the speed of light by comparison.

Yes but who wants mirrors the size of barn doors, no matter how quickly they fold?

I love the tiny mirrors - one of the best design features on the car.

You do know that they fold -enough- don't you? When folded, they're the same width as the widest part of the car. Not much point in having them fold further, then lulling you into a false sense of security and scraping all the way down the side of the car!

My particular requirement is for them to fold further, I.e. more than the widest part of the car. This would help me walk past them to get out my car space at work with my backpack, and to clear the handlebars of the bikes up against the side of my garage at home.

On 2.7. Have an issue just with my drivers side mirror. Doesn’t always fold when locked. Also it doesn’t return to the saved position when entering the car. I can save it to the position I like but still when holding the No 1 pre set it doesn’t go back.

Issues with my folding mirrors - Its been happening for a year but seems more frequent of this winter just gone.

The driver side mirror

a)Doesn’t fold in (as much as the passenger side)
b)Doesn’t always fold out at all when unlocking the car (particularly in colder weather), meaning I have to move it manually
c)Seems to fold out, but then the mirror is at the wrong setting. Sometimes it can reset by pressing the memory button (the one controlling the seats etc), sometimes it can be adjusted using the controls (joystick) , sometimes it won’t adjust with the controls i.e it won’t full pan and tilt in all directions.

Lived with it up to now, but since I'm way behind on OTA updates, I might take it in to Volvo to sort. At least log it as an issue within the warranty period anyway

My mirrors don't fold at all, they just roll a little bit in a similar arc to the outer casing. It only makes about 25mm (inch) difference. Are they supposed to fold in further than that, if not what is the point?

I'm on 2.0 and mine just did it. I just bought it from Arizona and it only has 6k miles, 2021. I have an appt at a space next week to go to current software.

I sometimes have this issue on my 2023 LRDM. I find that if I slow down my process of getting into the car and putting it in reverse, the passenger side mirror eventually folds out. Driver side always folds out, without fail. Sometimes the mirrors fail to drop in reverse (usually when I've sped through the "starting" process). As someone mentioned previously, putting the Polestar back in Park and then Reverse again usually fixes that issue.

We also have an 2018 XC90 and we've had memory issues with those mirrors since day 1. Usually, after reversing the mirror will not return to the correct memory position and is either too low or way too high. There have been several software updates applied to our vehicle that were supposed to remedy these issues and none have ever fully corrected the issue.

All of which is to say these seems to be an issue that the company has over a number of models and maybe they've just never figured out the correct fix. Honestly, it's a first world problem and I've just learned how to deal with it because nothing they've done has solved the issue.

My problem is even worse than that because it does all those things (sometimes doesn’t fold in, sometimes doesn’t fold in, never really rebounds after parking), but the real problem now is that I turn all those features off and the mirrors still fold in after parking for too long…whatever that is it seems to be about 20-30mins. Then the mirror doesn’t fold out…
