So it looks like today will be the day to test out how this car performs in the snow on UK roads. I’m sure our Scandinavian friends already have vast experience but this is one of those rare days it now seems. Any tips or does this car handle like a dream in these artic conditions 🤪.

Yes standard summer tyres. Decided against the trips out today in mine and went with her indoors F Pace instead as that has ‘Snow mode’. I sense this is a feature we should get in time to dumb down the power delivery.

Not sure if you are trying to be helpful or trying to scare the crap out of me. o_O

I'm fully away of the differences ... problem is in the UK we don't generally swap tyres in the South of England. When it does snow I just stay where we are or find a hotel to camp out in rather than risk it.

The biggest issue is that 99% of people don't swap ... but then still try and drive. So when I did have All-Seasons on my Kia Sorento I'd stop and others would hit me ... or just slide into me anyway. After that I just decided screw it ... I won't drive when it snows ... not worth the aggro with other useless drivers and saves me the bother of swapping tyres.

A very sensible plan and agree 100% with all that you’ve said. Tyre swapping really not necessary for me for the odd day of snow here and there. Certainly bottled it today once I saw some of the idiots driving past the house!

Even 4 wheel drive does not do much good on summer tyres, perennial UK problem as we don't have enough days under 7°c to make winter tyres worthwhile (in the south anyway). I carry Autosock for emergency use in case you get caught out away from home (AutoSock snow socks), I assume its best to put them on the front wheels for steering - assuming the polestar drives through all 4 wheels permanently (anyone know?). Has anyone considered 'All Season' tyres, I have heard that 'Good Year Vector All Seasons ' are good but I'm not sure they're available in the Polestar wheel size???

I have swapped to all season tyres on every car over the last 6 years except for this one so far. My first experience of driving summer tyres in the snow in Germany (still only 2C, same as UK here today) resulted in me nearly being arrested for driving irresponsibly due to having summer tyres on. My friends were shocked and left me in no doubt as to how stupid it is to drive in snow with summer tyres. I then bought a set of winter tyres... never again will I drive on snow in summer tyres!!

Any car in winter tyres will drive in circles around any 4x4 with summer tyres as soon as there's a hint of snow, slush or slipperiness. My wife's Zoe has Goodyear Vector All Season tyres on and they've been great; her previous Yaris had Nokians which were also great.

Yes, the Polestar is full time 4wd. Someone on here (I forget who, sorry!) was in the process of getting some all-season tyres but I don't know if the swap's happened yet. I had Continental AllSeason Contact tyres on my Kona Electric and they were fantastic, but sadly not available on the huge wheels on the Polestar. However the ranges are expanding all the time.

I swapped the Conti SportContact summer tires that came on the car to Conti ExtremeContact DWS06. I can definitely tell the difference in the cold. We haven't got much snow yet, but it's been below freezing quite a bit.

This is one of my favourite videos to show people who think that summer tyres are "just fine, I've never had an accident blah blah" in the snow, or worse, think that because they've bought a 4x4, it's suddenly good in the snow...

Actually I used that video to show my wife why we didn't need a 4x4 and getting a RWD car was fine, as Tyres were more important than a 4x4 on it's own.

She agreed and I never got Snow tyres for the RWD car ... just never went out when it snowed!

I spent the last 11 years with a RWD, stick shift car, swapping out to winter tires every November. In all that time, I never got stuck... not once. And I did plenty of driving in a snowstorm and on snow-covered roads.

I think AWD is fine, but it's overplayed here. My father claimed it was all part of a great marketing campaign by the American Auto Industrial Complex. I think he was right about that.

Can anyone point to some official description of whether the stock 19” nonPP Michelin primacy tires are all season or not? They don’t have the typical markings of all season tires as far as I can tell.

At least in the UK, they are definitely summer tyres - as far as I'm aware, Polestar only supply summer tyres or a second complete set of wheels with winter tyres on. To my mind they should have provided all season tyres as the default. Some manufacturers here have started to do that now, e.g. Peugeot/Citreon/Vauxhall.

Greetings from the top of Belgium with 20 cm of snow this Sunday. I can tell you that I had a lot of fun on the snow. The car behaves extremely well with the winter kits in Nokian, even on difficult climbs as a lot of cars were skidding. I was able to pull the kids in bobsleigh (without them taking exhaust fumes in the face:sneaky:). I also towed a "fossil" that was stuck in the snow without any problem (I was very amused by his amazement). What I can tell: if the car stays outside you have to protect the charging plug, otherwise, it's impossible to close it. With the snow a lot of sensors are inactive: cameras, parking assist, active headlights, which generates a lot of warnings. But in short, it was a real pleasure :).

It’s so rarely snowy here the cost isn’t worth it for another set of tyres/wheels. One or two days a year max.

I went for a short drive in the snow/slush yesterday to deliver a birthday present to a friend and the abs kicked in a couple of times but otherwise uneventful.

I tried out these chains today:

pics of them on stock 19” Michelin Primacy4 summer tires below.
I think it should work well if we need it and putting them on and taking them off was pretty easy! and the included instruction sheet is thick and glossy in a way that you can use it to kneel on so you don’t get too dirty.
took only a few mins per tire, at least under ideal conditions. Let see what I’m saying when I’m stuck on the side of the road and the kids are screaming.

Do those give enough clearance for the brakes and brake lines? I'd feel safer with Centrax style chains, which do not go all the way around the tires (and are even easier to mount & remove). I have a set for my XC70 that got me through Donner Pass in a heavy snowstorm a few years ago. Worth every penny.

The inner section of it is basically a tube a few mm wide that sits on the inner tire sidewall near the rim.
You can see a pic of the unwrapped thing here: https://www.peerlesschain.com/wp-content/uploads/AUTO_TRAC_Install_Instructions.pdf

so overall adds a few mm on the inner surface of the tire, well separted from the central hub.

I took pics of the inner surface of the wheel The closest part that gets close to the tire is the suspension post and that's definitely separated well further from the tire than the inner part of that chain would be. And the inner section of the wheel hub seems to have a lip that would help to keep the chain from sliding down into the central hub.

New member here:

Based just north of London (So almost no local public charging)
Had an iPace on order for delivery 24th April 2019, but as I own two restaurants and a hotel I thought it wise to cancel! Lured into a false sense of hope at the end of lockdown No. 2 so looked at a business lease of an ID.3. It seems that VW don’t want the business market so my lease broker suggested a P2. Test drove a non PP (not planning on track days and can live without gold seatbelts and valve caps! 😳) from the Westfield Space in Shepherds Bush (Tip: book a test drive from your home if you want to know what the car is like above 20 MPH! 😂) and was very impressed. Placed the order the same day and have a delivery date of 30/1/21 (Maybe!) BTW: The pleasant kid who showed me around the car promised that the app with the phone key would be available by the time I got delivery. Arh - the touching optimism of youth! TBH I must be bonkers as there is no prospect of making a living from hospitality in the UK for the foreseeable future - Hey Ho!

Previously owned a Lotus Elise Supercharged and an Alfa Romeo 4C and even so, I was still impressed with the instant acceleration of the P2 (Once I escaped London!). I also had a Volvo XC90 T8 with Polestar (👍) tuning, so I’m very familiar with the inherited features such as Pilot Assist (BTW: Certain threads seem to indicate that some owners expect to be able to have a kip on the back seats while bombing down a country lane. This is not the case - do not attempt this! 🤪) Pilot Assist relies on being able to “see” the white lines and we can’t afford to repaint them in the UK, so only use it where they are visible.

I specified my P2 in Snow. Does this mean I don’t need the winter tyres that are being discussed in the “Let it snow” thread? 🤣 Mind you, as some members from Southern England have noted, we don’t get a lot of snow here. Maybe I should have ordered it in Thunder?! I considered Midnight, but I will probably need the car at other times of the day too. Same goes for Moon! 😂😂

Our other car is an e-Golf, so a useable range adequate for a trip to the corner newsagent! My daily commute is unlikely to exceed 150 miles and I have a tethered 7Kw charger on the drive, so I will recharge overnight. I am not prepared to drive like an old lady to extend range. The wife will charge the Golf during the day as we have solar PV. I vowed I would never go all electric with cars as the UK public charging infrastructure is shockingly inadequate. Looks like if I want to go away for a few days I will need to plan a military style operation like the rest of you. I have always avoided motorway services like the plaque (I haven’t reached the incontinent stage of life yet and have always managed to avoid confusing McDonalds/KFC with food and Starbucks/Costa with coffe!) and there is no such thing as destination charging, so I might just hire an ICE car for road trips.

Anyway, thanks to the Forum for some really helpful information for this new experience. I will now crawl back under my bed for the next three months to avoid the danger of enjoying anything as per Government guidelines! 😡

Happy New Year everyone (Look on the bright side - it can only be better than last year!) Stay safe! 😷

Welcome @DBennett. Yes grim times for your trade. Perhaps come the spring when we are all vaccinated you could have the first Polestar convention piss up at one of your establishments!
