Has anyone find a way to take off the gray U shaped trim piece sitting on top of the center console. The idea here is to modify its shape to open up the cockpit cocoon between the front seats. It appears that it really is two pieces joined at the rear end of the trim.

Why, though? … you will be staring at wires and stuff not exactly meant to look aesthetically pleasing?

I’ll not just throw it out. “The idea here is to modify its shape to open up the cockpit cocoon between the front seats.”, then return it to the console. Or maybe replace it altogether with a 3-D printed piece that still hooks properly to the base and sides of Console.

Are you talking about the but from the front cup holder to either side of the Infotainment screen?

Whilst it can be removed anything you replace it with will need to be the same material and colour. The parts match the rest of the cart he rest of the internal trim.

If your hoping to remove and redesign this section completely I wouldn’t as there are batteries under it and if you get an issue kiss goodbye to the warranty as Polestar will just claim you damaged them during your retrofit. If your hoping to lower the wall centre console that could be done but you will need to replace the wood inlay bit underneath the gear selector as well, you might gain a 2 extra inches but not much more.

The trimming could be done from the top of the piece without disturbing the wood inlay underneath the gear selector.
look at the enclosed picture; there is more than 2 inches to trim.
