Great to hear. I received mine last week and had a long run of about 320 miles in total over the weekend. Really enjoyed driving it but didn't try the ACC with pilot assist - maybe next time! You say reasonable cost at 75p /Kw!! I have to say that I think on the road prices are a bit steep. It now costs more to charge an EV than to fill a car with petrol unless you charge at home - at least for the moment.

 

I agree 75p/Kw is steep but for people like me with range anxiety, the instavolt stations are very convenient (I already have a home charger, so do most of my charging at home).

My plugsurfing card was missing from the new car, so Polestar have said they'll send me a new one - it just didn't arrive in time for my trip.

 

So having received my car last Friday (Standard range, single motor), I've just returned from a 220 miles each way trip (total of 440 miles). The car didn't put a foot wrong, and on the motorway, the combination of adaptive cruise control and pilot assist (which steered the car) worked tremendously well. The most relaxing motorway drive I've ever had in my 30+ years of driving, and having owned a variety of semi-exotic cars (e.g., C-Class AMG, BMW X50M, etc).

Stopped at motorway services for a quick top up (InstaVolt 50Kw charger at 75p per Kw) so in about 20 minutes, I gained about 16-17Kw for a reasonable cost.

I'm pretty certain the pilot assist can steer the car without user intervention, but due to UK legislation, it requires the driver to have steering input every 20-30 secs

Absolutely delighted with it so far. No squeaks, rattles, and everything working as it should..

Glad you had an enjoyable trip. I too took my first long trip in our P2 (1,600 mile round trip to Chicago) a few months ago. Loaded up with wife, our Golden Retreiver, luggage and assorted stuff for the dog. No angsts, and like your experience, everything worked perfectly.

The US has the same requirement that about every 20 sec, or so, the driver has to show he/she is still there and controlling the car…if only for a second.

I did have one question - In the US, Polestar gives new owners 2 years of free charging with Electrify America (which is one of the biggest charging networks in the US)….do you get something equivalent in the UK? Any free charging agreement?

In short……no

we have a preferential rate with Ionity that is charged at £0.30 per unit, that is agreed for 1yr, though some were extended for an additional year. This is a European deal but don’t know if the European deal is €0.30 per unit (this would make the uk deal even worse)

the other issue in the uk, ionity do not have a high density of chargers across the country with only 18 locations currently installed

Nice, glad you had a trouble free trip, how was your range/consumption?

 

Used to be able to charge for free at Tesco pod point lev2 but that’s gone now as well in the UK.

When charging on the go I prefer Ionity and Tesla chargers for price and performance. Everyone else is alot more expensive.

 

According to the IONITY web site a further 8 charging stations are currently under construction in the UK.

 

Lets hope they have more than the current number of 4 or 6 chargers at each!
