Anyone notice there is no AM radio?

AFAIK, most new cars these days don't have AM radio anymore.
Reminds me of buying my first Sony walkman - it was FM only. Dad had a fit that I wasted my money on a radio that did not have AM.

This was some time in the late 80's...

Looks like this one Vintage Sony Walkman SRF-16W FM Radio Receiver Portable Pink &Grey Very Good | eBay

Why would anyone use AM? Last time I did was 50 years ago on my grandmas radio trying to tune in Radio Luxemburg 😊

Could be handy if you’re trying to navigate by NDB… I’ll get my coat…

At least here in the US the AM band is actually used quite a bit in the MidWest; you'll see signs by the side of the road to tune to an AM radio station for emergency information.

Wish it had it. Sadly most people on here think polestar is this living thing on a pedestal and if you think something is wrong, missing or a feature is broken, you’re expecting something outlandish. It’s comical.

My Chevrolet bolt and spark ev both had it.
My volt had it too.

My bmw i3 didn’t have it, but with Carly, I was able to code it in and it worked perfectly.

It was funny seeing the same thing on the bmw i3 forums, with people saying omfg it’s literally impossible because the interference with the EV drivetrain or….its 2018 who listens to AM radio.

Then 20 seconds of work with an app on your cell phone , you’d perfectly enables a feature bmw literally baked into the car, but disabled.

Hopefully polestar does the same thing bmw did and has given the car the functionality and it can be turned on at a later date.

Hell, without HD radio, I can’t listen to my local baseball or football games in the car. Everyone says just stream it, but the car’s LTE goes out so often and has been at the dealer 4 times in less than 3 months of ownership to sort out LTE.

The other thing people say is use Bluetooth streaming, but with software 1.9, Bluetooth is much less reliable in terms of connectivity. That’s not just my experience, but is what I was told by the LA dealer.

Hopefully basic stuff gets figured out and we all get AM.

There is a developer mode for the infotainment, that might let us unlock additional features, but it has also been disabled.

I would also like AM radio, I have a show that helps me figure out ways to prevent robots from stealing my medicine and I've been unable to listen in my P2

So basically, I don't need it in my city therefore nobody does. Did I get it right?

Nope no AM. I used to use it at times to tune in to radio from another country across the sea, but the car is even better. Besides digital radio (also supports emergency systems) there is also internet radio so for me no need at all to get a bad reception, I get a good reception now.
This might have less to do with the obsolescence of AM radio and more to do with electromagnetic interference. I believe nearly all electric cars have dropped AM.

I do occasionally feel your pain when I want to listen to a ballgame on AM radio! But there are usually internet work-arounds.

There might be some merit to the interference from EV drivetrain thing. As mentioned above Chevy Volt and Bolt had AM radio (leased both of them but never personally tuned to an AM station intentionally ☺). When you google for Chevy Volt/Bolt AM radio, the first pages are all about how poor the quality is.

I am fairly certain that my ionic 5 has AM. I'd have to check next time I'm in it
Not checked - can I still get TMS on LW?

Yes via BBC Radio 4, but then again you have it also available on DAB via Radio Five Live Sports Extra so why would you want it to sound shit :p

EDIT: And is also available via TuneIn Internet radio as an app in the Polestar...
