I’m guessing they never removed the antenna that AM was using and just dropped the software frontend for it from the most recent models? Not sure how else that’d work.
They do have vested interest in not being forced to add antennae and software that they’ve not built for these vehicles already on the road. Depending on how this legislation shakes out they could end up having to spend money (since our government won’t?), so perhaps might have an opinion. And I was curious what that opinion might be, that’s all.
Yes I understand how my hopes and curiosities are thwarted by many political and social realities. Please excuse me for expressing them.
Not technically retroactive perhaps (though at this point I wouldn’t assume, given the crazy ride we’ve had regarding EV tax rebates over the past 5 months), but would presumably apply to already-developed vehicles that manufacturers intend to sell in new model years. So that’s still unexpected development costs for “finished” vehicles.Should the AM legislation pass then it won't be retroactive as there was never any legal requirement that cars be equipped with any radio whatsoever.
