Just received this email

Hello Polestar driver!

We hope you enjoy the comfort of beneficial charging at Ionity stations across Europe. While your initial offer of €0.35/kWh ends on May 19th, we are happy to share that you will still be able to use the convenience of Plugsurfing and charge at a preferential price.

Starting May 19th, you will be able charge at Ionity stations for €0.40/kWh until further notice. All prices converted to your currency are available in the Plugsurfing – Polestar edition app.

Please disregard this email if you have already been notified of this change.

Drive safe,

Your Plugsurfing Team

Not a real massive hike and was expecting it but this should apply to anyone who has had their car for 1 year or longer

I just got the same. I'm assuming they meant £0.35 and £0.40 not €0.35 and €0.40.

Interestingly I just checked and the old Plugsurfing app is already showing the higher prices, even though the email says that will change on Friday 🤷‍♂️

The discounted price is only on the polestar app so that probably explains that above.

The prices are quoted correctly in € as they are the prices they will charge in the EU, and will be about 35p in the UK. They are not clever enough to convert the prices to GBP lol. The current Uk price is 30p.

Amazing - looks like you're right - the Polestar edition of the app is showing 35p for me.

On a related question, i have seen people talk about a Polestar Plugsurfing app. I already had the Plugsurfing app and used it with a key fob tag extensively last year when driving through Europe. I couldn't see any benefit to adding the key that came with my P2 until reading this as there was nothing to suggest it got me any cheaper charging, but now I see it does with Ionity (but nowhere else right?). However I can't see any separate app for Polestar so I have just added the Polestar provided key card as an additional key on the app and assume that if I just use that one with Ionity I will get better rates through my original account. Does that sound right?

There is a separate app for polestar, search plugsurfing polestar in the app or play store, its icon is orange with the 3 arches (rainbow?) vs black with arches.

Add the card that came with the car to the app and you should get the discounted rate of 30p or 35p. If your getting that rate now on old app expect it to end without warning.

Plugsurfing only give Ionity discount but charge a premium for all other networks. You are better off either just using a credit card or the other networks app as it will be cheaper. If you charge away from home regularly I recommend octopus electroverse.

Strange. I scanned the QR code on the card that came with the car and that took me to the same app I already have (ie. no Polestar branding etc)and asked if I wanted to install it on another device so instead I just added the Polestar plug surfing key card to the same app....hoping it will still get the Ionity discount. Another poor bit of communication by Polestar🤦‍♂️

That’s on your BCA delivery driver, not polestar!

My delivery driver, went through everything, including the Plugsurfing card and discounts when the vehicle was delivered.

Subsequent comms have been via email for those who registered their cards previously although I have yet to download the polestar app variant and have still got the discounts on the old app.

If you were a car manufacturer, would leave it to chance that the delivery driver needed to communicate so many things on handover including the benefits of a charging app card and how it worked, or would you make sure you took care of it. if I were Polestar I know which I would choose.

I wouldn’t blame either Polestar or the driver. It’s plugsurfing that decided to create a seperate app for Polestar. The card that came with your car is probably old hence the QR code taking you to the wrong app.

Any logical company would have set up the old app with warning, so when you select Polestar as your make it would warn you this app is not for you and discounted rate will not be available. However Plugsurf isn’t logical.
Anyone know if there’s anyway to use the web interface for reports and the csv export? It’s mildly irritating that I seem to have lost that functionality.
I've been on that new price since February.

Mine should have started yesterday but looking at the app today still being charged 30p
I've installed and signed up to the new app, since the old app had gone up to 72p/Kwh. New app shows 30p per KWh. I now have my RFID registered to both the old and new app (I can't disassociate it from the old app), I'm not 100% sure which app/rate the RFID will use when I next use it....

I disabled the key in the old app (tap on the bottom circle, my account, select the registered key). then requested they delete the account for good meaure

That’s thorough :) I’d not thought about but I just checked and the key is no longer visible from the plugsurfing website for me. I have used the new app but I’ve begun to just use the app and not RFID to start charging anyway so that did work OK.

Seems that KIA drivers are only paying €0.29, so even at €0.35 Polestar drivers were paying more!

They needed the extra discount to make up for the fact they are not driving a polestar
