So I'll preface this with the fact that I have seen no mention of Polestar inking any free charging deal with a charging network.

During my test drive last weekend, I told the product specialist that I was potentially cross-shopping with the VW ID.4 (and Audi Q4 e-tron), which is only minimally true. I mentioned their 3 years of free charging at Electrify America as a cool selling point. He told me that Polestar also includes 3 years at Electrify America! I honestly didn't take him at his word and completely assumed he was misinformed.

So I reached out to Polestar support to ask the same question. I was totally expecting a response like, "There are no partnerships at this time. I hope you enjoyed your test drive though!" Instead, I got this -

Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately this information is not correct and we do apologize for the misinformation that you were provided. However, we are in talks with a charging provider to try and facilitate a charging partnership. More details will be announced when this partnership is solidified.
This was a shockingly transparent answer to me and I hope it comes true soon!

Some of the US-market press reviews also made mention of a to-be-announced charging partnership. I had lost hope when they started delivering cars without announcing a partner, but it sounds like something is still in the works. Fingers crossed.

Don't expect too much. In Europe you get a free Plugsurfing charge card, but not the 20€/mo premium membership, only the basic membership which you could also get for free yourself. No real benefit and quite disappointing after the initial announcement.

I've been told on two occasions (one by a contractor at the Pop-up Space, the other by the LA Space Manager over the phone) that if a partnership occurs it will likely be with Chargepoint. Their network in LA is pretty limited to slow chargers, or paid parking garages. I really hope EVgo or Electrify America make the cut, but I'm not holding my breath.

Here's the follow-up response that I received -

Honestly, I would expect it to extend to current Polestar 2 owners and new owners alike. However, I am not 100% sure of what the exact details will consist of. But I will definitely look into it a little deeper to see if I can get some sort of timeline for an announcement to take place, and possibly some details as well.
@joshuamj Agreed! Electrify America seems to be the only one catering to road trips (as opposed to metro areas).

Look what I found!

Do we know if the Polestar 2 has the hardware to eventually be Plug & Charge capable?
functionally this would save ~1 min per rapid charge session, or <5 min per road trip for us. So not too big a deal in my book, but still good to know and it would be that much more convenient.

Looks like the relevant standard here is ISO 15118, which includes Plug & Charge, and which according to this doc might be baked into CCS?

If so, this should apply for quite a number of EVs! I guess just a matter of Electrify America and Polestar to communicate the necessary info to get it all set up? Then we just have to associate our car (by VIN?) and credit card together in EA's account system.

'Autocharge' is supported by Fastned with the PS2 here in Germany already: Autocharge (The german website says it is not supported in the UK, though).

It's basically nothing more than the car sending a unique identifier which is then recognized and associated with your account. I.e. it's not only the car which needs to support it, the charger and network operator also need to support it.

Tried but disabled it again, as this would automatically use the Fastned tarif which is more expensive than using other cards with it.
