Shipping and delivery

Hi,

Over the weekend I received an email "Your Polestar 2 is now in the UK". Looking through the forum, it seems that the general consensus is that it is approximately 1 week from the car arriving in Zeebrugge, Belgium to that "is now in the UK" email. However, the schedule list on Wallenius Wilhelmsen doesn't show any arrivals at either Zeebrugge or Bristol in the past 2 weeks. The last arrival in Belgium was Tannhauser on the 25th of September. Anyone have any idea what boat the car arrived on? Perhaps the recent driver shortages in the UK have pushed out deliveries? Or maybe Polestar is no longer using WW?

Is it still approximately 2 weeks from the "your car is in the UK" email to delivery? How long before delivery do they start letting you pick delivery dates?

Thanks

p.s. sorry for relying on your knowledge/experience, however the Polestar tracking/delivery information, documentation about the process and appropriate setting of expectations is sorely lacking.

Try 4-6 weeks. And yes, the Polestar comms on delivery is a bit pish.
I placed an order about a week ago, (might be just over), I got an email saying delivery expected end of November then this morning I got one saying delivery next week.

Ive rejected the delivery as I’m out of the country Next week but trying to get them to arrange it for the week after let’s see. I still haven’t made the final payment lol.
Wow! That was quick! Mine still somewhere in Eastern Indian Ocean ;)

I haven’t been given any tracking information so am wondering if it was a cancelled order. I’ve also noticed a lot of preconfigured cars and am thinking did they adapt one as mine is with pilot plus and they only have pilots or plus not both.

in ICE cars there used to be tricks to get certain things working e.g. in a Ford I had if I did certain moves or button presses it would activate central locking when the car didn’t come with central locking on speaking with some people I learnt that it’s just easier to fit the parts and deactivate them then custom build every car. Is the same for EVs?
Just realised got a second problem my EV wall chargers won’t be fitted for 3 weeks after I get the car lol.
wow @Icesingh, you are lucky. I placed my order in late July and I still don't know when I'll be getting my car!

As for home chargers, make sure you get the fitted before April. After April, you will only get a government grant to fit them if you are in rental property or rental property owner, or in a flat. Apparently home owners will no longer get grants to install chargers

thanks they are being fitted end of November so I’m fine for the grant. I need 2 one for me and the other at my mums total cost about £1500 but hey ho. Getting one from octopus energy ohme home pro and the other direct from ohme. Just easier as I spend equal amounts of time at both locations due to work.

I’m curious as to what you ordered? Mine is a LRSM but when I looked at LRDM it stated likely date as Feb next year.
Yes, I've ordered a LRDM. I was very tempted to go LRSM but ended up not going that path as it was not what I had on the test drive in June so I didn't know what I'd be getting with SM

What's the logic there then?

Charger installation in rental properties / flats is very low and allegedly harming EV take up, so I guess they want to focus efforts on increasing charger availability in those situations.
Also, the consensus will be that those renting can't afford a mortgage or are perhaps on income support, low income etc. etc. Now I know that is properly "generalising" but that's what the stats will say. People who own their own home probably aren't the people that £350 will "incentivise" to go electric.

I bet the idea is that with the lower grant threshold for EV purchase and changing who they give the charging point grant to the encourage the "masses" to go electric.....not going to happen IMHO unless we start to see some of those cheaper Chinese EVs hitting the UK. A Zoe or Leaf still isn't a cheap car!

I suspect that the "masses" won't be able to afford an EV until the lithium ion battery costs come down a lot, or a new battery tech is commercialised and widely available. Even the T word with their massive LI-Ion battery factories cannot break the cost barrier right now. Hydrogen fuel cells may be another solution, but safely doing that is still years away.

Pre-owned EVs may be an alternative, and some cheaper (for some value of "cheaper") ones are coming onto the pre-owned market. 3 year old Kia Soul for under 20k on AutoTrader, for example

For people who can't afford even 2nd hand EVs, they're going to have to rely on public transport. Which is great given how little investment there is in the UK on that right now (excluding CrossRail and HS2)
The incentives will probably be given to the landlord and not the tenants. The problem occurs that a lot of flats etc don’t have off street parking especially in city centres.

If the idea was to make EVs more affordable to the masses I have no problem with the grant for EVs being dropped to under £35k but they then should have increased the grant to 6k or even 9k so those cars could be more affordable for the average person.

Councils need to put charging points everywhere even if they are the 7kwh ones. In Oxford they have pop up ones on the side of the road being trialled and other ones where there is a socket on lamp posts. The infrastructure is lacking and needs improvement. I would even force Tesla to unrestrict their super chargers by legislation if necessary.

The funding for public transport has actually been slashed in real terms due to Covid. TfL for example are cutting the number of buses on routes, reducing frequency and making journey times longer which will put off people using them. The trains are way to expensive especially during peak times.

Yeah Hampshire has a trial of the lamp posts and bollards in Winchester and Eastleigh; but they seem very condensed with only what seems like "housing with no private parking" as the metric. Personally I'd like to see more data intelligence feeding the decision making process.

The Tesla thing is interesting also, I believe the motorway service stations need to champion the push to make Tesla open up their network; it's the service area operators in control of what gets the prime space. But then again, I bet up until Gridserve starting partnering with Ecotricity they just didn't have the money to improve the infra, maybe that will change. Just frustrating when you rock up to Fleet servs and they have two archaic Ecotricity units and something like 8 super chargers!

Just wondering as this thread is for shipping and delivery……

Did everyone in the Uk have their P2s delivered or were some of you able to collect from a location? I’ve been banging my head with CS who are insistent on delivering the car to me when I want to pick it up. I don’t want to take a day off just for the car to be delivered to me, I can arrange my work in London around the car if I was allowed to pick it up.
I think the only space currently in the UK is Westfield, and it won't be suitable for collection so delivery is the only option.

They only have 3 spaces in the entire country, Westfield, Manchester and Milton Keynes I was thinking of picking up at a Volvo dealer but oh well.

I think they give AM or PM slots, so you might be able to get away with half day...
