Hello there,

I now have made roughly 3500 Km with my PS2 LRSM pilot, plus (received the 17.02.23) and I love it but I have some daily small annoyances.
One of them it that when I use the drive assist. even with one of my hand (and sometimes both) on the steering wheel I almost constantly have the "hold the wheel" warning that lights up.
I understand that the detection is made by the torque reading and not only by touching it but on long highway travel it feel like a constant arm wrestling game with the steering wheel.

Does some of you have the same problem? is there a fix?

What position do you hold the steering wheel?

When I was taught to drive the recommended place to hold the steering wheel was at the "10 o'clock" and "2 o'clock" position (no longer recommended due de-gloving/arm breakages during airbag deployment ) or the "9 o'clock" and "3 o'clock" position.

I find that holding the steering wheel at the 9 and 3, just the weight of your hand/arm is enough to give the steering wheel sufficient torque and the drive assist will be happy.

Well on long travel I usually hold it 8 and 4 to rest my elbow on the side support. You are right at 9 and 3 I have almost not problem with the warning popping, but I cannot rest my arms.

When the PA does a good job and you do not need to make any corrections it will constantly nag you with the warnings. When the PA is messing up and you need to interfere constantly it is totally happy.

It is because the way it works, torque detection as you say. But it is a bit of a nuisance.

I had the same problem, so I don’t use the feature. I find it more relaxing to manually hold my lane than unnecessary fighting with the wheel to convince the car I am holding the wheel. The wheel needs to be touch sensitive on the metal sections.
It’s not sensing touch, it’s sensing rotational resistance. So you have to give it enough of a grip to resist its micro steering adjustments. Doesn’t matter where you put your hands or elbows.
Yes, and that is the problem. When you’re holding a straight line rotational input is not needed so the car penalizes you for not driving like a drunkard.

That door armrest needs a lot more padding, it becomes painful on long trips. During my last trip I resorted to placing a winter hat on the armrest under elbow and it was much better.
I hold the wheel near the bottom not only for airbag, but also translates similar to a motorcycle pushing through corners on complex roads.
The spot where I hold has that metal trim which is why I thought a good idea to make touch sensitive like the old table lamps.

Keep the wheel strongly (upper side) for some seconds and your PS2 will be happy for quite some time. I have same phenomen when not enough pressure on the wheel but not that much anoying. Can maybe inform you about the fact you lose maybe some attention...
