TCAM failure

762 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Polarbear
My 2023 LRSM TCAM died last week the car has about 1,500 km so far. Symptoms were no cell connection,no GPS, charging schedule was stuck on a 7 pm to 7 am schedule and could not be changed. PAK failed. All my phone contacts lost etc. etc. Dealer tried to do an oral reset but no luck. Now I am waiting for a new TCAM. None in stock. I like the car but and knew some had issues with s/w, but less than a week after picking it up at my space is really frustrating !

Sorry that this happened. If you are willing to pull some panels off and disconnect a couple cables, there's a way to hard reset the TCAM, which will most probably fix it: 12V/TCAM BATTERY DISCONNECT PROCESS. It seems that most TCAM failures are due to software faults and not failure of the actual physical device.

When you say the "dealer", you mean the Space or the service center? The Space (at least here) isn't capable of doing anything. The service center will be able to do a hard reset. I'd make sure that either they or you try that before you wait for the replacement TCAM module and continue to lose use of the car.

And its just absurd that they do not have them in stock -- last time I was at the service center they said they, unlike the fully stocked Volvo part department right there, don't stock any parts and everything has to be approved then mailed from some secret bunker. I thought we learned a lesson about JIT logistics during the pandemic but apparently not!

Thanks for your suggestions. YesI took it to the service Center. I did not want to start opening panels to disconnect the 12v and TCAM batteries as the car was only 1 week olds. The service rep told me they tried a hard reset but now had to get Polestar approval for new unit. Story being too many were being replaced when it was just a s/w issue.

Really sorry you have to wait for this, but don't give up hope on the car itself-- besides several software-related TCAM failures that are now mostly history due to firmware updates, I have put 40K trouble-free miles on the vehicle.

The service center should have the part in stock and simply get approval to do a warranty fix, but last time I checked, I don't own or run the company :)
Thanks for your help. I guess it is a case of “infant mortality”. Having been involved in electronics stuff all my life I know most failures happen shortly after initial power up. The rest go onto a long life.

I've had the car for a year + one month and just got hit with TCAM failure two weeks ago. Tried to reset (demister) but no dice. LTE has the dreaded x. Waiting for a service appointment. Just tried to pull fuses for the second time today (first time left out for less an hour, tried longer today) in hopes to avoid the full battery drain, we'll see if it's magically back tomorrow. I was hoping a year in I'd be golden! But no luck.

Dont think I have ever heard of a tcam that needed replacing!
So whatever the fault is it seems very rare at least.
