Hey guys....
this is really hard to say.... I got a great deal on an e-tron sportback and basically couldn't say no. Pics below
Went this AM and picked it up.
I'm really gutted because I was really looking forward to the Polestar. But at the end of the day, had to go with head over heart on this one...
I went with etron for two reasons- it felt more luxurious and comfortable than my model x; lack of aggressive regen like polestar 2 actually is a blessing
I really was this close to going for the etron sportback. The lease deal I got from Audi was net cheaper than the one for the Polestar (by ~$2.5k/3 yrs); although the Polestar financing deal was net cheaper (assuming reasonable rate of depreciation) compared to the etron lease.
The Polestar just more matches what I want and I'm OK taking the relative risk of buying vs leasing.
I feel like the e-tron is a comfy luxury family hauler that can pass as a sporty speedster.
And the Polestar is a luxury sporty speedster that can pass as a comfy family hauler.
Each are better at the former than the latter, but can do the latter thing fine enough even if it may not come as easily.
The extended test drive I did really convinced me we could use the P*2 for the weekend family trip just fine.
This is probably the fanboi speaking but I also think the Audi is more generically nice/luxurious while the Polestar has a more unique/special aspect to its niceness/luxury. The etron interior could come from any of the Qx matryoshkas. The Polestar 2 is really its own thing.
The etron does have 2 center console cup holders tho....
I finally got through to someone at Manhattan Motorcars who was very kind and helpful. She apologized for the lack of communication over the past few months. I was told that I could expect NYC delivery in 2-4 weeks (order placed September 2020). However, my main concern since making the deposit was whether the Fed / NYS rebates would be applied. I was originally told that they would be at the NYC space but here is what I heard:
Q: What is the actual price of the lease?
A: Fees + taxes in NYC would be approximately $3,500. Paying those up front, a 10k miles / 36 mo. lease with Thunder as the only option comes out to $730 per month.
Q: Can the $1,300 "delivery fee" could be waived if I pick up the car?
A: No, the delivery fee is non-negotiable and is actually the transportation fee from the port.
Q: Is the $7,500 fed rebate being applied?
A: The fed rebate is being applied to make the lease payments lower. I asked whether it was through a cap cost reduction, high residual or other means. I'm not sure if she understood and said it's calculated in the "algorithm" on the website. I later found that she was basing the "quote" on the website configurator which is an "estimate" at best. I'm certain that little to none of the Fed incentive is actually being passed to the lessee.
Q: Is the $2,000 NYS rebate being applied?
A: First, I was told that the NYS rebate is "$500" because my configuration is above $59k. However, this is incorrect as the eligibility for a $2k rebate applies to the base price of the EV rather than the sticker. This is almost certainly why Polestar changed the price to just below $60k. I was also told that I'd have to claim this as a deduction in my personal tax return. However, I think this is wrong as well since the NYS website says that the $2k is conferred to the dealer at the time of Lease (please correct me if I'm mistaken). As many of you know, Polestar isn't even listed on the NYS website so its unlikely this is happening either.
I'm going to try one more attempt to obtain the actual terms of the lease. If it stays anywhere near $3,500 drive off / $730 per month, I'll very sadly have to cancel my order because these rates simply aren't competitive with other cars. As an example, I received a quote for a BMW M340i ($62k MRSP) for $3k drive off / $625 per month - this before negotiating and with no EV rebate to speak of. I also received a quote for a Volvo S60 T6 ($47k MSRP) for $0 drive off / $495 per month.
I love the PS2 but I encourage anyone considering a lease at these terms to either 1) finance at 0% APR (while receiving the fed rebate) or 2) get quotes + negotiate from a few competitors just to know what else is out there.
I have to agree with you. The lease terms/price are wholly uncompetitive and they are going to lose a lot of potential owners who either can’t afford the price or won’t (wisely) take the risk of owning a product that will lose a significant amount of its value over the ownership term. The fact Polestar has significantly narrowed the lease options (eg now not offering a 24-month term and only 10k miles allotment) shows that even they don’t have faith in the residual value of their new product.

Not all is lost. I’m staying in the Volvo/Polestar family, buying a vehicle that is so close in spec/performance to the P*2 it’s crazy. List price within $1k of each other, 415hp, 494 torque, 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, great interior. I’m trading fully electric for partial electric, Google/Android for Sensus and a bit more cargo space. Also, the V60 Polestar will arguably be even rarer than a P*2 and they hold their value incredibly well. But I hope to be back soon when Polestar get their act together.

On pure electric, it’s rated at 22 miles. I live 12 miles from my office and have charging both at home and the office, so in theory I will be on electric for the majority of miles that I do commuting. Volvo’s new OnCall app will track how many miles I drive on electric vs. gas, so it should be interesting to see how this pans out in real life over the ownership experience.

Whew, Allstate charges a lot to insure this car, even for a middle aged lady driver 😂. I couldn't add it self-serve on allstate.com, but stopping by my local office in person took care of it. Wired the money, now just waiting to finalize delivery time. This is the nail-biting phase...
Order update: I was permitted to complete Step 2 yesterday and got an evaluation for our trade. I was then able to complete Steps 3 & 4 today and am waiting to hear back. I am doing full purchase financing (hey 0% is free money while my money earns interest).
Update - no update really, still holding on step 4 waiting for them to approve financing which you think would be a couple of hour process instead of a couple of days... Oh well...

@polerad I'd love to hear what you think about the leather interior, specifically the seat comfort. Some reviewers have commented about bolster support I've noticed. If you are familiar with volvo seats, are they similar? The last question was more wishful than anything. Volvo seats are legit.

I'm not looking forward to the insurance either. I'm middle age and drive like an old man but where I live it's always high. I always thought VA was much lower than MD.
