YouTube Music App

I want to recommend the YouTube Music app for the Polestar 2. After years of streaming my music from my iPhone I recently subscribed to YouTube Premium and realized it comes with this music service. The app is decent and sound quality is good, but not lossless, I don’t think - not that I could hear the difference in the car. Anyway, it seems to do a good job of showing my recent music, lets me make playlists on my phone using the YouTube Music app on my iPhone, and search for anything by either typing or asking “Hey Google play…” and it defaults to YouTube Music. Anyway, not as good as Apple Music app would be but pretty good!

In the absence of proper Plex support I've found it the best value alternative. I have a good decade of history on YouTube so it's 'play my supermix' algorithm is very good at throwing together a random playlist for most journeys and even the most obscure artists I like seem to have content on YouTube.

I'm glad you have had good experiences with the YT Music app! I'll list some of my grievances, let me know if you have faced them and maybe managed to solve them?

  • Occasionally it ends up in a stage where it says "nothing to show here" or something similar, it appears that the connectivity fails, sure we all know that there is the occasional hiccup in the connectivity especially when the car is starting, what's annoying is that it seems sometimes the only way to force a reload is to do a full reboot for the unit. Even "force close" of YT App isn't enough.
  • Sometimes it will let me search for songs and will play them without any issues but it won't display my playlists
  • There doesn't seem to be way for make the playback to stop at the end of a playlist. It will always generate some new song to play.

Yeah, I admit these sound small nitpicks but the autoplay is really annoying for me since I've created specific playlists and on the other hand when the first bullet happens 3 times in a row it gets really old really fast.

These are my small nitpicks too, i will also add that when you see your songs on your playlist and maybe want to scroll on them, you can't scroll backwards. By that i mean say you have a playlist with 50 songs in. If you are at song Nr 30, and you want to play song Nr 5, you can't scroll up and select, you have to go out, and 'reload' the playlist, back to Nr 1, and then you can scroll to Nr 5.

This wasn't how it was when i first got the car, but after about 6 months an update happened which meant this was the case.
