Polestar announced access to SuperChargers. Will provide (sell) adapters by mid November.

$230 is steep & neither Polestar nor Volvo dealerships have any information on this news: nothing in their emails, nothing in their parts ordering system. Another great fumble by their management. You’d think that an email to current owners could have gone out at the same time as the press release.

I can confirm the Tesla app now shows all the NACS compatible stations when I say I have a Polestar 2 and an adapter. I’ve ordered a Lectron adapter because they’re in stock now, based on the review by State of Charge.

This may come in handy on our planned trip to Pittsburgh area in November... too many of the EA stations in PA are only 4 or 6 plugs and fill up.

From an email from Polestar this morning:

Charging on the go is now more convenient than ever.

Polestar vehicle's (sic) now have access to the Tesla Supercharger Network, unlocking over 17,000 fast charging stations across North America. All you need is the North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter. To order a NACS adapter, please reach out to your local Polestar Service Point today with deliveries planned for mid-November.

Called local space (Toronto) and the response are: "They posted that thing way too early, it won't be available until mid-November" & "We have no info about pricing yet"
Not what I got from Polestar Manhattan. They are expecting the adapters to come in late November, and the price is $253 + tax. They are not taking any pre-orders.

Saw this news! Just dropping by to tally my being-right points: Adapter isn’t free for Polestar owners. This I expected ha.

(Also, my being-wrong points: There’s no evidence Tesla is gatekeeping based on the adapter having an auth chip like I was worried about. Doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t in the future, but they aren’t now at least! Good to see.)

Edit to add: I can’t imagine getting one of these from either Bay Area service center would be fun. Yeesh. Polestar should’ve done an online form thing, even if it just directs to the service center.

This is posted in the Polestar FAQs and this simply isn't true. The A2Z and Lectron adapters are already in wide use.
I think they’re using the “customer support” definition of “support”, as opposed to the technical compatibility term. Obviously it works (for now). But if you have a problem and Tesla finds out you were using a third party adapter — well I’d be surprised Tesla still employs customer support people.

otoh, maybe Tesla did tell Polestar third-party adapters would be non-functional but then changed their mind! Could’ve been something someone who was fired was supposed to do.

I bought one of these a couple of years ago. Will it work? Is the problem just that it will be slow?

Just successfully charged my P2 at Tesla Supercharger using A2Z Typhoon adapter discussed above. No issues - just a couple of caveats:

1) Google Maps in my AAOS does not yet reflect all Tesla Superchargers, just the magic dock equipped ones.

2) Unplugging the Tesla plug from the A2Z adapter is not obvious. You need to press the A2Z release, then push in the Tesla plug - then pull it out.

Are you US based?

In NJ, Short Hills space (Prestige) didn't know anything this morning and this afternoon said to call back next week and they might be able to order it. I called the Princeton space and they happily took my information and CC details over the phone and ordered it for me.

I also tried calling the Volvo dealership in town and they wouldn't order it for me (although they had it in their system) claiming that they'd have to log the vehicle with the order and the Volvo system would reject entering Polestar vehicle details (sounds like BS, but it is what it is).

You need Google to update Maps to support that, but thst won’t take long I hope…
Can confirm that as of this morning, Google Maps still said the Tesla chargers were incompatible, so I just chose a nearby charger as my destination to precondition.

Probably for the best for the time being, as you won’t be able to charge without an adapter, and those are officially unavailable as of yet.
GM vehicles with Google built in already have this setup - I would imagine it should be active very soon.

Kinda funny that they say the update is coming now when the adapter doesn’t start shipping for weeks. Almost like they want you to use a 3rd party one ;)
