My activity key died a few months ago, so my wife has been without a key of her own, and I've been without a spare key. I don't like being in this position, and paying for a new key (activity or full) seemed unnecessary. I managed to get the key open with some... effort, and inside is a CR2032 battery... soldered to the PCB. This only presents a small problem. I'm not about to apply heat to a battery to free up the contacts. I was able to de-solder at the PCB end, and solder in a CR2032 battery holder. I sanded the holder down flush to the battery (using the old battery installed in the holder and sanding against a flat surface). Used 30AWG wire for the negative terminal. A bead of silicone to seal it up, and it's good as new. Just tested it, works perfectly. I've seen a few posts where people are just as frustrated by this as I was, so i thought i would post here to see if anybody is interested in a full write-up/how to.
