Amp Setting for Granny Charging

Quick question: I am granny charging at home on a standard 110 outlet. Should I change the amp setting in the car? I have just kept it at the 48 amp setting it came with from the factory. The dash indicates that it is drawing 11 or 12 amps. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Depending on where you are plugged in, you should throttle the amps via the car. For instance, if you are plugged into a circuit that is not dedicated to the car, there may be other draws on the circuit and you could overload it. That could cause unnecessary heating or blow the breaker. In that case, turn the car down to 10A or turn off everything else on that circuit. If you have a dedicated 15A circuit for charging then you can let the charger automatically throttle the draw to 12A (80% of 15).
This is great advice. Thanks. I have had no issues, except that once I did trip the circuit breaker. The outlet in the garage where I charge from is on the GFI circuit (no idea why), so I thought it was a GFI problem until I checked the circuit breaker. I will try limiting to 10 amp.
