As of today, Android Auto is available in your Polestar 2, you need to plug a cable in to your USB-C media port for full Android Auto support. If you go into your app and click on the centre icon (Spotlight icon) at the bottom of the screen, it has just been released today. More information is in the Spotlight post.

I just hope it doesn't break something else. Lol. Two steps forward and one step back kinda thing lol.
Or 1 step forward, 2 steps back. But yeah, this is something I've wanted all along. Just in time for my new car to be shipped.
Yawn!
With AAOS I would never go back to AA.
Not a this or that, it is this on top of that. IF AAOS supported all the same apps as AA then yeah, sure, but it doesn't.
Try taking a TEAMS call/meeting in the car, nope, not as fluent as AA for sure!
For example, when leaving and deciding which car to take. (If I am alone, 100% Polestar, if my wife is, she takes the EV6, if together, typically I drive the P2) Then she says "I have to take a call, so let's use my car, yours won't work" And yep, something that simple means KIA over Polestar. And if that applied to purchasing, SHE would not buy the Polestar over something as simple as that. "If they can't do that right, what else is missing" type of thing. And this is 4 YEARS after release!

Long before we had screens in cars I frequently dialed into meetings while driving (and with Teams I thought you can also do that). What I consistently found was that I lost track of the meeting thread because things on the road required my attention and distracted me. Usually someone updated me when I got into the office. Once I had a meeting with our COO and I finally just had to pull over so I could concentrate on the meeting and express what I needed to.

Today, unless it's urgent, I don't even initiate a call to one of my kids until I'm someplace where ACC and/or PA can take over most of the driving.

Yeah, but my wife is always getting sucked into meetings. HUGE projects as in 8,9 zeros in the budgets. I usually drive, and in her car, it really is so much easier. And that is just one (small to me) example of AA winning over ONLY AAOS. Obviously AA ONTOP of AAOS is probably up there for the best of all worlds IF Polestar had decent apps in the first place.
I still cannot imagine that after 4-5 years, you have to rely on a 3rd party audio application to play digital audio from USB (THANK YOU AUDIOWAGON!)
Now, hopefully, I will able to use AIMP via AA as well. Still, come on, no real media app on AAOS? WTF?
There are a handful of other AA apps that I liked to use in my 2019 Volvo S90 via Sensus which was still a win over AAOS other than screen size.

I haven't seen anything, that would be nice though. I never have to pull over for it. I usually catch it in the garage, if not, and I'm already moving, just open the app, go to settings, and as soon as you come to a stop, it will re-prompt. Still a PITA in a way, but you don't have to restart the whole car to get the prompt. And I have 2 close stop signs when I leave my house, so I catch it then if not in my driveway/garage.

Looks like WhatsApp will be coming soon.
lmao. Polestar finally gets around to adding Android Auto and Google finally gets around to allowing more types of apps onto Android Automotive. At least, well let me not speak that into existence knowing Google's track record.

So just talked to the "Service" manager at our new Lisle location outside Chicago.

All new updates are on hold till January 7th in their bulletin since there was some initial issues for the US. But if it's a go they can do them there with Vida etc.

Don't shoot the messenger 🤣

The race is on. Which way will I get AA back first. OTA Update on my P@, or this damn thing finally getting delivered and me getting rid of the P2? For those not aware, It has been built, just none have shipped yet...
Supposedly this week they will.

I think I can safely assume there won’t be any updates this year, they’d be crazy to push out an update entering the holidays when dealerships are closed and people are going away…

I have just today had my UK 2023 (2024 model year) Polestar 2 SMLR in at Volvo for the latest update to bring Android Auto functionality.

Volvo did it while I waited. It took 30 minutes and Polestar paid for it, even though that was the only purpose of my service visit. The latest update works flawlessly as far as I can tell and AA also works perfectly, meaning it's just a tad easier to have both Podcasts and Nav, for example, or Tidal and Nav etc on screen at the same time as well as still having heater controls too. It just makes it feel more complete rather than having to jump between separate screens, though admittedly still quite easy to do.

AA just makes it more flexible, so it's worth it, though I don't feel it's anywhere near the game changer that it is on other cars not already running Google's OS as PS and Volvo does. I'm lucky to have a Taycan GTS ST too and AA finishes it off nicely. It's less of a boost in the PS.

Better still, the first time I tested it, I had it connected wirelessly with literally no set up needed. I plugged in my little AAWireless dongle into the media USB C port and my phone connected wirelessly in a few seconds. Voila.

I was told this week by PS UK the OTA release date is unknown, so a service visit is the only option. It was effortless and well worthwhile.

Recommended.

Interested to know how you went about arranging this. I am really keen on getting AA so that I can finally use whatsapp in the car!

The connection shouldn’t matter… most I’ve seen come with both USB A and C cables. The bigger issue is whether they allow map display on the instrument cluster. For Apple CarPlay, wireless adapters don’t seem to be able to do that.

I have been using the AA Wireless for years. The original one. They now sell a second version...

This is where I get confused. If you are plugging into that then why not plug into a short right-angle USB cord. Once I plug in I don't touch the phone. OK, sometimes but still. I control most by voice or from the car. I honestly don't use many things. I need music, sports and comedy. So why is using a large dongle thing and going wireless a big deal. I am learning here!!

On the iPhone battery drain. Go into Background Refresh settings and turn them off for the Polestar app.
For the missing maps, have you given the Infotainment system a reboot?
Not sure why you have two Ottocasts as the Polestar has only one USB C port that will interact with the Infotainment system....

I've switched my cables to those magnetic ones a few years back with the little magnetic adapter that plugs into the bottom of the phone and stays there (it's small) so it's easy-peasy connecting my phone for anything.

You have to unfortunately commit to all of your other cables around the house, etc to be the same magnetic ones but worth it for me (in fact they sell little adapters that plug into your old cables so you can still use them).

These aren't the exact same ones I have but here's a pic off AMazon.ca for reference of some adapters. The little piece on the top right plugs into your phone and stays there.

I ordered the OTTOCAST A2Air Pro.

Can confirm that it's working great. No issues with connection and and auto re connection is smooth when leaving and re entering the car.

90 degree usb c adapter sends the short lead back into the compartment and with one of those 3d printed shelf units it sits nicely tucked back and gives a decent "fitted" appearance.

I have a similar setup in my car also with the 3D printed shelves!
