Minor, vaguely related update:

It's been just over a week, maybe 100 miles, and the replaced driveaxle is still silent, as far as I can tell. BUT, I noticed yesterday, I have a loud clicking noise from what sounds like the front right when making a U-turn.

No such noise from the left side. <sigh> They're gonna be super happy to see me at the dealer on Monday.

Could be the CV boot problem most have with the front. They just a special lubricant on it.

Had an issue like that on my XC90 awhile back -- ended up being the CV boot. For the P2, they told me they're replacing all 4 axles and the work should be done early next week

Oof, all four...

I gather this is the issue that Hernameiselektra mentioned.

Looks simple enough to DIY, but it's not clear what the stuff they prescribe is. I guess a dry wax lubricant, sort of like this?

Not sure to be honest. I only heard noise from the rear left and nothing in the front. But, the technician said they heard something up front too so they'll be replacing the front axles too.

Following up on my front-right clicking noise, it turned out to be related to the wheel mounting against the rotor. There's a Polestar (or Volvo?) tech journal bulletin (TJ-36483) about this, but apparently, the front wheels need a thin layer of grease applied to the rotor where the wheel mates up to it. There's a special sauce grease that the bulletin prescribes, but Permatex anti-seize works too.

After talking to my friend at the Polestar service center in San Diego, I chose to DIY this, so I removed the front wheels, smeared a thin layer of anti-seize grease on the mating surface, and reinstalled the wheel, being careful to torque it to spec. Noise is gone now.

Oddly enough, the wheel bolts felt pretty loose when I initially removed them, and I don't think they'd been off since the car was new, so I wonder if maybe the real problem is really that the factory isn't getting them quite tight enough. Anyway, bottom line is that the front noise is totally unrelated to the rear. Edit: At least, it is in this particular case.

Tomorrow morning after I compare braking at the same time of day in the same place at roughly the same temperature I will report on the the result of my service visit today. For the technically curious, the tech notes on my service form reads as follows: "Client states noise coming to a stop. Verified concern, diagnosed noise to rear axle shafts clicking on decel. Traced to internal fault in rear axle shafts. Tech [name] Installed 36003709-7 AXLE SHAFT, EXCH, Installed 36003708-9 AXLE SHAFT, EXCH Removed and replaced rear axle shafts.

mines been super quiet I haven't heard a thing.

So have they published any TSBs on this? They should be listed on anyone's repair order.
I didn't get any paperwork back but if you call them they will just do it with it questioning it. That's what they are doing at Rockville right now. They told me they have started calling customers back and letting them know they have the fix and did start ordering parts.

My experience was similar, I told them about the noise, they had others in line ahead of me, but they ordered the parts and took care of the issue without any push-back.

When my car was at Rockville last year, they told me that it was normal. If I decide to keep the car at the end of the lease, maybe I'll get it back in there.
