Free servicing for the first three years or 31250 miles – why?

Hi all, I've been looking into booking a service appointment at my local Volvo dealer. They have stated that the service intervals are at 2 years or 18000 miles.

I’ve just looked at the Polestar website and they state that “every Polestar 2 comes with free, scheduled maintenance for the first three years after delivery, or 31,250 miles, whichever comes first”.

If the service intervals are every 2 years or 18000 miles, that really means that your first service (at 2 years or 18000 miles) is free. After the first service you either get to 4 years (beyond the free period), or you get to 36000 miles (also beyond the free period).

So why do Polestar lead with 3 years or 31250 miles? Surely the more accurate thing to say is that your first service is free...

Marketing spin?

It depends on markets. Here it’s 5 years or 100,000 KMs, with intervals of 2 years or 30,000 whichever comes first, which means you are getting three free at most and two at least.
Yeah, sorry, I thought it was obvious I was talking about the UK market. It's not particularly relevant to me what other people in different countries get.

Well his point is that all Polestars need servicing every 2 years. So if the market you live in has 3 years free then you’re only going to get one service. But if you’re in a market where demand for long warranties is high and so Polestar provides 5 years, then you’re going to get 2 free.

If your market had 7 year warranty then you’d get 3 free.

I really don’t understand your complaint. Do you want the service interval to be shorter? That could get quite expensive when the free period expires.
I'd prefer them to be less disingenuous and offer either one free service or two. Instead, in the UK at least, they've engineered a situation where the service intervals and the free servicing criteria mean the vast majority of people will only benefit from one complementary service. But it's sold as "3 years free servicing", which clearly sounds great, but isn't.

I suppose my current comparison is my Honda e which came with 5 years free servicing, and it gets one every year (or 10k miles) for five years. No weird 31250 mile limit there.

I would argue the Honda e is being treated like the rest of the Honda ice lineup here: what on earth needs servicing every year? Great you got five years free but after that you are forking out every year!
You can argue what you like, but Honda didn’t set some arbitrary number that sounds good, but actually only ensures you get one free service (unless in exceptionally unusual circumstances) ;)

I actually called Volvo yesterday about this, my car is 3 years old in May (bought it cash so might keep it) and will also be due its first MOT, so I thought I would book it in early for a second service and MOT and try and get it all carried out under Warranty. Unfortunately it won't, the service agent told me I had it serviced last year at ca 18K, so that is all I get, you don't get a second service just because you think its a good idea to get it done under Warranty :) She told me a second service would be £295.00 and MOT £54.95, so I declined.

When logged in to Polestar platform it does say

Next service due in
486 days or 12211 mi

So I will wait until next year for a service if I keep the car and get the MOT carried out in May somewhere local.
Ooft! My dealer quoted £127 for the service!

"The price for a Polestar service is currently £127 including VAT. This is for the change on the pollen filter, and for the inspections we need to carry out. You also receive all your software updates and a years roadside assistance free of charge. "

Is that £127 for the second service at a Volvo dealer? can't understand how there can be so much difference between quotes and different dealers?
Yep, second service. Ray Chapman FWIW.
