I see across a few different threads what could be a common technical fault so wanted to open a new thread for others to quickly find and report if able.

@GTN @DDuck @kriand @derezzed all have like me confirmed or think they have the same symptoms as I.

symptoms include:
Visible damage (caused by shorted and melted components) to the front grille
Parking sensor failures
Permanent driver assist warning on dash

This could lead to being hard locked out from the car and/or electrics failing.

The cause is water ingress and corrosion to the front wiring harness that drives all the sensors and aids packed into the front grille.

I have the same issue as of today with error symbols and Pilot Assist malfunctioning on a two week old Polestar 3 made in Chengdu. I’ve reported to both Polestar directly and booked a service at the local dealers. It looks like this is now a widespread issue and a recall will be necessary.

What gave you this impression? Did Polestar Customer Support indicate this, or is this your personal assessment? Have all of you reported this to the NHTSA?

Apologies for my ignorance, but I’m unsure how severe an issue must be for a recall to be mandated. A serious safety risk is certainly the primary factor, but what is the threshold for action, and who makes that decision?

I picked up my P3 today - 14 miles on the clock. The salesman said these two yellow symbols would go away after I drove a little bit…that “the sensors need to calibrate”. I gave him a shady look knowing what I know about this thread, but are these symbols in the picture what you all have on your screen that signify the water ingress issues?

First make sure all of you permissions are correct in the car settings area of the middle screen. Permissions that interact with Google and are not correct mess up function strangely since the software for the car is android based. Many of my problems, key fob not working, Google assist not working were due to permissions problems where apps were not allowed to work with Google assist. Also if your digital key card can not be loaded make sure the screen behind the steering wheel is on by putting car in drive and than pushing P to park prior to starting digital key app.

Those are icons that show up for a myriad of software issues, only one of which is the water ingress thing. Try soft resetting the car. If that doesn’t work then hard reset it.

The water ingress issue sounds like it has a total failure of those sensors but more importantly, the front of the car - the smartzone cluster is visibly affected.

Thank you 🙏🏽 I thought about hard-resetting but it seems that can sometimes unpair keys etc so I’m going to leave it overnight and see if it resolves itself by morning. Stay tuned 😂😵‍💫

Yes it does sound similar... going to try a 12V reset first and maybe wait till the next OTA. If it still doesn't clear after that I think you might be right...

No visible damage in my smart zone, but I see some other people also didn't see damage. So it doesn't mean no water got in.

Amazing, so I've had P* contact the other day regarding a hire car that they would try and sort.

Great, they've offered a polestar 4 via LCH - not like for like with a 3 but okay whatever...

But yeah the excess is £1000 in the event of damage or I can pay £15 a day to have it lowered to £50 excess....

What are they smoking?

Thought I would add my post link here, there is water ingress, and the technician says is a known problem. Mine is a 2025 model no visible water damage, but its got in as all the errors real and ghost exist, he tells me the wheel arch hasnt been sealed so the rain when driving gets into the sensor relay. I too have a P4 from LCH coming today, £1000 excess, so hopefully i dont crash it !

I'm at the dealer getting my car updated and they're checking for a leak. I've been told they haven't seen any leaks yet on Polestar 3's. We've seen this issue pop up on Launch Edition and South Carolina built cars so it can't be an issue with the microphone that's located in the wheel wells of SC made cars.

Nope. 4 weeks waiting for parts here now, no word on when they will arrive.
I drive the car daily and new faults keep appearing, now the BLIS system is malfunctioning.

Technician had no info about this problem from Polestar and the plan is only to change the corroded parts. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sorry everyone is going through this. I haven’t experienced any issues but with an early Chengdu VIN I’m not holding my breath. Ironically I switched to a P*3 after my new EV9 was a lemon so the thought of potentially having to do it all again sucks (but I’m aware of the early adopter risks - it’s worth it to enjoy the car during the good times imo). Keep us posted plz.

They know water ingress is an issue. I think the problem will depend on how much water or moisture has entered the wiring and relays. I guess worst case is wiring and relays need replacing. They have told me mine will be a week so again guess its not been bad water ingress. So no new parts needed.

I can report that I have this issue also and verified by Polestar service. Now replacement parts ordered and apparently it seems that the entire thing needs to be replaced.

In my case the heater wires were on 24/7 and I could burn my fingers when touching the heated zone.

Interesting. I wonder if that's also related to my rear window defroster being on 24/7.....and seriously hot. That issue seems to have been resolved with v1.2.15.

I just got word that my car (delivered 3/10, in shop since 3/26) has water ingress. What has me worried (other than just leasing a car and not having a car and now paying for taxis/rails when I had a working car before) is that this could be a universal defect. My car was parked outside (last 5 = 27080, SC built) and stopped working after a round of heavy rains. It may be all the cars have this flaw but being garage kept is allowing it to not show

Outside of having to replace equipment once the front wiring harness is actually damaged, have service centers actually said anything about a fix to prevent water ingress from happening? I.e. sealing that opening in the wheel well/arch?

A wide swath of the US, including my area, experienced torrential rain last night. I’ve been closely following this thread since my car is also an LE, but I haven’t encountered the issues some of you have reported. However, since my commute involved driving through partially flash-flooded highways, I was particularly paranoid that if water were to get into the wrong part of the car, today would be the day.

To help me understand any patterns, I’ve compiled the VINs of those who’ve shared them (thank you for that), to see if there’s any discernible trend among the affected vehicles. Below are the vehicles whose owners have provided full VINs and confirmed their cars are affected:

YSMYKEAE3RB001525
YSMYKEAE3RB001640
YSMYKEEE7RB001098
YSMYKEEE3SB020592

There were additional posts but since full VINs were not shared, I can only work with the information given.

And for the sake of transparency, here is mine (which, again, does not have a front wiring harness issue yet):
YSREA3YB7SB002313

Now, here is ChatGPT's breakdown of the VINs (which I found infinitely better than any online site):
Image

the leftmost VIN (YSMYK...) is one of the affected vehicles, and the rightmost VIN (YSREA...) is mine.

So far, the only consistent pattern among the affected cars appears to be the first five digits of the VIN: YSMYK.

Earlier in this thread, it was suggested that the 10th digit (R vs. S), which denotes the model year, might explain the issue. However, I don’t believe this is the case, as the last affected car I listed has an “S” (2025 model).
There was also speculation about the factory location (11th digit), but my vehicle was also built in ‘B’ and hasn’t experienced the same issue. I recall one post mentioning an affected car built in South Carolina, but they didn’t provide full details, so I can’t confirm that.
The issue is more likely related to digits 3-5 (and possibly 6), which, according to ChatGPT, are internal Polestar revision or designation codes. All affected vehicles share YSMYK (and “E” in the 6th position).
These digits likely correspond to internal designations tied to revisions, trim levels, or other factors not publicly disclosed.
It would be helpful if affected users could share whether they have similar characteristics, such as the same trim or the Polestar symbol on the panoramic roof, as some have mentioned.
