Horrible Bluetooth phone call quality

I am a proud owner of the PS4 LRSM since January 2025.
But I do have a major problem with the car, the phone call quality. In the first periode of driving the car, the problem was not that big (not a lot of complaints by my contacts that I do call). But since today it was horrible! Nobody that I have called, was satisfied and complained directly.
so, I tried, calling via CarPlay, this was a significant improvement. But, now CarPlay crashed (black screen).

Reconnecting the phone did not help.
is someone else experiencing the same problems (CarPlay crash)? Can it be fixed with a software update (phone call quality)?

I think it's the hardware in some cars and nothing to do with phone.

There are both Apple and Android users who are finding it either perfect or totally unusable.

It's almost as if the noise cancelling microphones have been installed backwards or out of phase or something - basically my car rejects almost all of my speech and instead broadcasts -all- of the road and wind noise. It genuinely sounds like I'm in the middle of a skydive...

Hmm interesting. How can I prove that it won't be fixed via software updates and instead is a hardware issue ? As I spoke to customer services and they simply said wait for OTA updates.

I am trying to avoid to drive to Polestar showroom which is 1 hour drive away! Don't have any local to me.

Plus even then, they will most likely keep the car for some time which I cannot do !

I started getting complaints about horrible call quality the day after they did a software update to 4.2.2 for me at the service. I had no complaints for months before this update. I'm using an iphone and before the update used it in car play mode but since 4.2.2. it doesn't connect to car play so using it in Bluetooth mode. I'll try again in car play and report if it helps.

Ok so I tried 3 options of using Bluetooth for voice calls since my previous post and I can confirm the following experience.

First to say that major change since the update to 4.2.2 is that if I connect my iPhone to carplay, the car then automatically disconnects wifi connection and disables wifi. Since I didn't want to use carplay and prefer to have the car's own OS and wifi connection I didn't use carplay but have only used plain Bluetooth connection with the car since the update. This is when I started getting complaints about poor call quality. Since I also have an Android phone I tried the same Bluetooth connection with Android phone as well (P4 doesn't support android auto). So the 3 connection options gave the following experience:

1. Iphone using Bluetooth - horrible call quality, EVERYONE complained about terrible background noise

2. Iphone using carplay - much better call quality, no complaints

3. Android using Bluetooth - good call quality, no complaints

My conclusion is that Polestar didn't expect people with iPhones to use just Bluetooth without carplay and didn't do any work to apply ANC and voice isolation in this connection mode. This is very disappointing and I hope they will update it in the subsequent update. This is clearly possible as it works with Android phone. Also, this wouldn't be too bad if they allowed me to use carplay while car is using its own wifi and its own apps like it used to do before the update which worked fine. However, now after the update to 4.2.2 this is not an option any more and I have to choose if I want to use the iphone for calls - I basically have to completely hand over the screen to carplay and disable car's own wifi and OS. Very silly choice.

I hope this helps.

My partner mentioned this to me when I was speaking with her via the car last week too. I've reset my phone and the infotainment to no effect. Another suggestion was turn on voice isolation, but I don't seem to have that ability based on the screenshots provided. I also think this is only since 4.2.2 as she never mentioned to me previously

Not had a problem with the BT hands free using either my S10 or S24, yet.
Might be because I spend the time just to say
" sorry, I'm driving . May I call you back later pls?
The call quality whilst using BT and parked up has been fine.
