This may sound like a dumb question but I've just ordered a 'smart charger ' from ohme, currently with octopus flexible tarrif.

I work from home so I'm home 5 days a week, wife also works from home 2 days a week. The sneaky thing about 'intelligent octopus ' is the day rates go up. The night rate is obviously 7kw at night 12-5 or something. Question is as I will charge my car once a week at most ,is false economy?

I plan on leaving the charger in 'dumb' mode on the current tariff and seeing how it goes for a while. I did ask octopus but they basically said 'work it out yourself ' which didn't fill me with confidence.

For the maths experts current tariff is 45.57 daily charge, 21.98 Kw.

Intelligent octopus is during the day 'peak' 47.85 daily charge and 24.39 kWh. At night it's 7kw for 6 hours

Any ideas ?

Thanks chaps. Yeha when I contacted them they basically said work it out yourself lol hence I posted this.. advice most appreciated. Once I get the app installed on the charger I'll.work out what it's costs me and go from there. You can appear to change tariffs easily which is good. Yes 99% of my charge will be at home

Not really… but I also switched from an electric water heater to a heat pump water heater at the same time. We don’t drive a lot - maybe 1k miles / month between both cars. My weekly charge is usually 25 kWh or so. To put that in context, my home air conditioning system uses 350 kWh per month for July and August. And my heat pump water heater uses about 55kWh per month. (Both have apps that report this.) So the car is using a lot less power than my A/C in summer, and maybe twice my hot water. And with my off peak charging discount the car costs only 8 cents per kWh… so unless I do some long trips, it costs me under $10 per month for electricity. Even with no discount, it would be under $20 a month. No complaints :)
That's brilliant! Thank you.

Correct yeah that's why Im getting the 'smart' olme charger (probably spelt it wrong) so I figure if I ever swap or upgrade it's compatible. The latest polestar does connect apparently 24 model but mines 2022. All I know it should be the most efficient when charging at home and I will just plug it in , mostly overnight. It does seems quite complicated at times with multiple apps, polestar, olme, octopus! But all part of the learning journey. I must admit the last 2 weeks seem like 'free driving ' as I've not had my electric bill haha I'm sure it will seem normal as time goes on

Do I miss the sound of a V8? Of course. but I'm really happy with the car , the mrs loves it , she didnt like any car ive had previously.

Have a great bank holiday guys and girls!

Mentioned this in other post, ohme charger installed today. It's a bit of a faff using the app for the first day as it keeps disconnecting etc but reading it online I think that's quite common. From 40-90% cost less than 10 quid on my normal tariff fyi. If i charge it once a are that's pretty good. Will then consider switching to Octopus intelligent later. Price rises next month apparently, whatever that will be

Theres a local festival here called sundown so I think all the signal this weekend is basically gone. My phone's terrible so perhaps that's it. I'll hope it sorts itself. Ohme said reinstall app so I did but still the same

Quick update. Charged it from 25% to 90% today. Again app doesn't know I've finished and unplugged it. Didn't show a cost. Via these forums I found a thread that suggested you switch EV on the ohme app. Did this and back to my PS2, then it 'updated' with the latest charge. 12 quid for a full charge. Really not I impressed with the ohme app, it is very buggy indeed. Still thinks it's plugged in...... Hoping next ohme update with fix it but for 900 quid I expected better lol

So yours doesn't know it's finished either? Does yours show disconnected as mine always thinks it's still plugged in. Yeah we will look at switching in the next few months but at the moment it's one charge a week max and it cos ÂŁ10 or so , so pretty happy with that! I still need to do the maths re switching to intelligent is cheaper or not as the day rate goes up. I know ohme is quite new so guess it will get better to be honest. Can you set a timer in the car or the app just does this, on the intelligent setting? The fact it disconnects alot I don't really trust it to be honest lol. I can imagine the horror of waking up expecting a full charge and it hasn't !

I'll do some more research. How do you switch to octopus intelligent if needed ?
