New GHCA Availability?

Hi everyone,

9 months in my original OBC/GHCA failed. Like others, AC charging stopped working at home and other chargers (stuck at Initializing). DC charging works fine. Took to my service center who confirmed it in 30 min and ordered the part which is on back order with an unknown ETA. The invoice lists 36012239-4 as the part number that was ordered which matches what others have mentioned.

Any updates from people on the availability of the new GHCA and wait times? It may be useful to list.

Location: Michigan USA
How long did GHCA last before failure: 9 months
Date part ordered: 9/11/2025
Date part available/replaced: XXX
Was this a >first replacement: no

I can start a google sheet if that's easier.

My car is scheduled with service for October due to loaner availability. They were able to confirm the diagnosis over the phone and order the part without me driving down. Called last week to schedule and request the part and my service advisor called yesterday to notify me that the part had arrived.

That's reassuring - are you in the US? My service guy said they had to look at it to open up a ticket with Polestar to get it resolved.

I did my first Tesla charge with the A2Z adapter today. Worked great (195kw) but I had issues disconnecting it for a while - probably user error. I couldn't figure out how to get the Tesla Universal Charge out of the charging station.

LE China Built Apr 2024
Delivered Oct 2024
No GHCA failure; 10k miles

Level 2 charge often (75% of time) failed to initialize on Emporia home wall charger on 60a circuit.

Randomly failed to initialize on ChargePoint public 6kW/hr charger.

Since software update 1.2.15/16, have not had a recurrence of these failures. (“AC-charging on 1-phase has been improved to avoid interrupted charging.”)

Have never had any DC issues. Polestar-Tesla adapter ($300!) works great.

Mine failed the first time 7 months and approx 4,500mi in. Failed again less than 1 month and 400mi.

Each time they had it replaced within two or three days. First time I had the car towed to them, approx 130mi.
This second time I drove mine around, using DC charging, until I was scheduled to be in that area for work for the week.

I asked why it failed a second time and was told they basically expected it to fail because it was still the old inventory. She claimed this is new stock (new vendor). But looking at the invoice the part number is the same and the car was fixed within two days of me dropping it off so we’ll see. If it fails again I’m eligible for lemon law.

LRDM
SC Build, June 2025
Delivered Sept 6
AC Charger failed within 24hrs of delivery with less than 300 miles on the car
After 5 days of ownership, having charged on DC, Polestar arranged a rental (no Polestar Loaner offered) and towed to Service Point, ODO:462miles
Just got off the phone with my SA, GHCA on order, backordered 12-14 days as of yesterday, no delivery or even ship date confirmation (they have another 3 waiting for the same part)
If 14 days holds I'll get it back 3 days before my next payment is due, and I'll have driven it for 8 days out of the first month of my lease...

If you get the reference... it's every bit applicable to the GHCA and the P3 overall.

The new GHCA was supposed to be delivered this week for mine, after it's been sitting waiting for a month. And guess what? Yup... it's on backorder with no fulfillment date, but they think it will be there in....two weeks.

In case it's helpful here @cbear44

Location: Salt Lake City, UT (via service center in Denver, CO)
Delivery of vehicle: 23 May 2025
How long did GHCA last before failure: 1 month
Date part ordered: 02 September 2025
Date part available/replaced: 15 September 2025
Was this a >first replacement: Yes

I confirmed multiple times with the service center that this was the new batch from the new supplier so, hopefully, it won't go out a second time. I know many on here are still waiting for the part on backorder, and have been waiting longer than I had to. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel a little bit of guilt about that! Hope the others on here get their GHCA replaced and ready to go ASAP. 🤞

Adding in the part number here too. My invoice shows:
  1. Part number 36012239 for the "Battery Charger OB 1 SOR"
  2. Part number 32383980 for the "GHCA Reload 1"

seems completely random but at least parts are available in the US for someone - will no word from the dealership on ETA.

then again 2 weeks later ( then replaced )
then again 3 weeks later
Date part ordered: 5th Sept 25
Date part available/replaced: no news
Was this a >first replacement: ive had multiple. Infact i have said is there any point as they only last 3 weeks. But they assure me that there is a new part, but its on back order, and they are now not replying to my phone calls.

annoying to say the least. Were the prior replacements the "old" model? from what I've seen online old part number may be 32471411 and new part number is 36012239.

@nbvolks, have you gotten any updates? Radio silence on my end, but you've been waiting longer than me...

Polestar/Volvo have such a bad PR situation with this pair of cars, I will never understand why they even delivered mine without replacing the GHCA with the updated part first. I guess they just didn't have the part availability... What's worse, driving/loving the car for several months and then the charger failing, or being excited about a new car for exactly 24hrs and it breaking as soon as you get home... Since an accident totaled my Audi eTron I've been driving (two different) Grand Cherokee 4xe for 31 days, a base Camry for 2, and my newly leased P*3 for 5...

After enduring my wife's XC90 T8 that had 3 replacements of the HVCH (High Voltage Coolant Heater) due to, you guessed it, internal faults/bad supplier QC, you'd think they would understand how much cost and customer perception is associated with something like this...

actually just got a call that the part is in! So there is some sort of supply chain movement in the US. 4wk wait for me

BTW - I messaged Polestar support and they are willing to reimburse for DC charging if I email them receipts after the repair is completed. Not sure if this has worked for others.

Yes. I called Support when I started the process to schedule my service appointment and they commuted to it in writing. At least they're being reasonable about the whole thing.

I had my GHCA replaced once, so far 🤞🤞🤞. Failed 2 weeks after I took delivery of the car in July. Brought it in and had the shutter recall done, then took the car back for a month while waiting for the GHCA to come in. Polestar paid for all of my DC charging during that time, just had to submit receipts, took about 1 week after submission to receive the direct deposit in my account. Got the call to bring the car back in after 5 weeks of waiting. Got the new part -2239/-3980. 2 days to install (Kia Ev6 rental). Have had the car for about 3 weeks now and still charging. Initially after I picked it up I had the A/C issue where the driver's side would blow warm/ambient air (never had that issue before), but that seems to have gotten better by itself (or maybe it's just that the weather has cooled down).

This was Volvo Palo Alto FYI.

good luck to those still waiting (and to me as well!)

So the latest in my debacle on this subject seems to indicate that Volvo/Polestar don't seem to know what their inventory of GHCA looks like. I've been told since late last week by PS customer service that they see the part is in the dealer's possession. The dealer can't even seem to figure out when they're expecting to receive it (now that we've blown through 2 promised dates) and certainly can't be bothered to update me with "no news, still waiting."

PS customer service has not followed up with anything on any of the timelines they've told me. After speaking with a "manager" on Thursday last week, I was supposed to receive an email with her contact info and instructions to send in receipts for all the costs I've incurred. Never received. Called back this morning, and was told that the same advocate was assisting another customer and would call me back in an hour. I got last week's promised email (still with no contact info) nearly 2 hrs later, not a callback. I continue to waste my time waiting in the hold queue to listening to more empty promises.

I called my service center, which goes nowhere, just asks if I want to leave a message after about a minute on hold. I called their partner Volvo dealer and left a VM asking for assistance with a SA there that I've built a good relationship with. I called back to select "Sales" and spoke with my salesman, who assures me he'll get some info from the parts manager tomorrow, since he's got today off.

I've been asking for the car back for 3 weeks to drive and DC fast charge while we indefinitely wait for these parts to arrive. They can't even manage that, citing that there's "some risk of damage" every time the car is towed. I have explained to everyone I've spoken to today that my expectation is that tomorrow I'll have a) a promised repair and delivery of repaired vehicle date this week, or b) delivery of my broken car while I'll DCFC on Polestar, and an expected delivery date of the part for which we'll schedule another tow back.

My car has literally not moved in 3 full weeks...
