Great - they have a local API where you can control forced charging of the battery. So with Home Assistant, you can do a really simple rule like:-

If Octopus are 'dispatching' then set Solax to force charge,

That would be ideal. I could then force the house battery to charge whenever Octopus decides to charge the car, which is often outside the 'core' 6 hour period.

Thing is, I'm still struggling/learning how to turn that sort of 'logic' statement into actual HA code. It's a bit disappointing really because I've been using Arduinos for ages and have little problem coding in Python and other languages, but I'm finding the whole HA environment a bit of a challenge for some reason. But I'll get there eventually!

You don't really need any 'code' - it's just a couple of automations.

'When' Octopus Energy Intelligent Dispatching Changes from Off to On
'Then Do' (whatever it is you do to tell your battery to force charge)

'When' Octopus Energy Intelligent Dispatching Changes from On to Off
'Then Do' (whatever it is you do to tell your battery to stop force charging)

You might want to add an 'And if' rule to make sure this stuff doesn't happen inside the 2330-0530 window.

Anyone else looking at Eon Next? We have an Economy 7 meter (dual rate) paying approx 22p day and 12p night with Octopus. Coming out of a 24 month fixed rate next month. As I don't have an Ohme meter, only Octopus Go is available for 4 hrs cheap overnight. Eon are quoting 33p/kwhr day and 9.5p/kwhr night time (for 7 hours). Seems a better deal to me?
We've got this for exactly that reason. 7 hours of off-peak charging every night is close to 50KW a night

Just wondering if anyone is having issues with Intelligent Go and a Zappi charger?
I switched to the tariff but 3 of the 4 charges failed with what appears to be only the first ½ hour slot working, the follow-on sessions then did not activate. Schedule was something like 23:30-00:00, 1:00-4:00 and 4:30-5:00.
I did raise a ticket via the app, but zero response so far.
I deactivated the "smart" option so that I did get a full 5 hour charge for a long journey at the weekend, however I shall switch it back on for now as only local trips and an overnight fail will not be a problem.
Is it just me, my Zappi, or are others having problems?

We only recently changed to Octopus and have not yet switched our tariff from the Octopus Flexible. We have a newly installed PV system with house battery. I was thinking of going to Octopus Go with Outgoing lite for a few months just to get used to everything before looking at Octopus Intelligent or something else. Sensible approach? Need to sort out our meter first.

I also have a new (October) PV/Battery system and was with Octopus and already had a smart meter and a Zappi before I got my P2. But I also stuck with my Flexible Octopus tariff for a few months while I got used to things.

In hindsight, there wasn't really anything to 'get used to' so it just meant I was paying about 30p/kWh to charge instead of my current 7.5p/kWh. Still cheaper than buying diesel each month but it could have been even cheaper for those few months - not just for charging the car but also the house battery. So, if I was doing it again I'd change tariffs as soon as I could.

But it sounds like you don't have a smart meter so your current tariff options will be limited. I'd recommend getting a smart meter asap and change to Octopus Intelligent Go for the cheap car & house battery charging (7.5p) and also Outgoing Octopus if you're exporting power (15p). My electricity bill has already dropped by about 2/3rds, and that's in the winter months with very little export so far so I'm eagerly awaiting my first PV summer!

Thanks. Actually IO is currently moot because I have just checked this minute on the Octopus site and it looks like my EV Charger is not compatible yet. Should have done that before asking my previous question :) I went with a Giv unit to keep the same ecosystem with my inverter and house battery. So I will have to start with Octopus Go first when I change. I suspect it will be a while before we are compatible with IO.

It's still worth registering your interest with Octopus. My Zappi wasn't supported when I first got my car but it wasn't long before it was added, so you might get lucky.
