Piano Black Was An Awful Choice...

Ten days into my car which I love but one of the few things I truly dislike is the Piano Black interior trim as it:

1. shows every fingerprint / touch;
2. scratches so easily; and
3. collects dust like a magnet.

I would agree that nothing looks better when clean, dust free and finger print but, at least to me, not the best choice when it comes to something and needs to be touched frequently.

That's being solved over here.

Most people are wrapping, I'm trying to source a 2025+ wood center trim piece. IIRC you have a 2025, so you'd be looking for the opposite piece. That said, I ordered 3-31, but still no shipping info, so I don't think they actually have them...

Particularly ballsy people have replaced the steering wheel buttons with the XC40's matte buttons. That requires disconnecting the airbag though, so I'm not sure I want to go that far...

@The Illustrative Man appreciated.

I have a MY25 with the Zinc Nappy so the Piano Black is limited to the steering wheel buttons, the area around the centre console and the shifter.

I will pass on the steering wheel buttons as that seem like a lot of work and just keep cleaning it.

On the centre console, has anyone wrapped the inside of the shifter in PPF.

Wonder why they opted dii use such a dumb material!

It's just because gloss increases the contrast which makes it look good in the showroom (when it's clean). Cleaning it is your problem after the purchase, which is not their problem. I believe it also looks/feels higher quality than a matte plastic of the same price. Matte can be nicer, but also costs more.

Same logic applies to capacitive buttons and everything moving into screens. They're significantly cheaper than physical buttons, and in the showroom they're easy to use and "high tech". It's just living with them after you buy the car is not great.

Get yourself one of these. I put one on my P2. They fit perfectly and work great!

Everyone's preferences and tolerances are different, of course; I personally love the piano black enough that I had that panel wrapped in clear plastic while having the entire front of the car done. My place did it for free as part of the deal. Takes a three second wipe with a microfiber towel and it looks just like new. Doesn't even show much dust or fingerprinting in the first place. For what it's worth...

I agree that it looks great but, as I noted in my OP, it is very hard to maintain.

I have the Zinc Nappa Leather option so "the rim" of the centre console is in piano black, the rest is grey ash to match the zinc. I am going to try to have the piano black rim wrapped in PPF next Monday when the car goes back to PPF for a QC follow up.

Mine replicates the colour of the dashboard more than the surround on the console which is all good.
No looking back, I don't stare at it in awe but it just feels more right than the piano black with every day that passes.
