Expecting to recieve my Polestar 2 sometime in July, this was a rare preconfigured model, but not pre-owned model available on the UK website, so relatively confident about lead times.

Spec is the Dual motor long range with Plus package. I did not choose the performance package as almost every review I have read said don't bother and save ÂŁ5k. I am happy with 19 inch tyres as the ride will be better and I am less likely to kerb the alloys and from all reports the performance shock absorbers are too hard.

I would however appreciate the brembo brake pads / discs / calipers included in the performance pack - can these fit 19" wheels and if so could they be purchased separately? if they can't be fitted is there a recommended alternative?

My thoughts are to buy the new set-up and take of the stock unused ones upon delivery and sell on to cover some of the costs of the upgrades.

Thanks

TBH for normal driving the brakes will never be used, the regenerative braking is used for 99% of the braking. if your going to take the car on track or drive extremely aggressively then go ahead and upgrade.

The Performance Pack Brembo brakes do not fit with the OEM 19” wheels. Perf Pack owners looking for 19” winter wheels had to find a non-OEM set that fit.

Can I put ADAC 100-0 km/h braking distance test data for Polestar 2 here / Bremsweg aus 100 km/h:
LRSM 34,7 m
LRDM 35,1 m
LRDM Performance 31,6 m

Alas, PS delivers with variety of tires and these were on Conti premiumcontact 6, Mich Primacy 4 and Conti sportcontact 6.

Did I need good brakes yesterday: No. Would I like to have the best brakes possible: Yes.

34-35 m is good braking for a regular car. 31 m is close to "The big winner of the test is the Porsche 911 Carrera S (992 generation), which manages to get a “sensationally short” braking distance for an emergency stop from 100 kph (62 mph) in just 30.9 meters (101 feet)." PS2 is some 600 kg heavier than this Carrera S.

You have perfectly good brakes (plus regen ) in the non-PP stocker … to push those brakes to the limit of the test (btw, don’t forget the DM has regen on two axles going) you posted, I have my doubts how many times a lifetime of the vehicle you would really need it during public roads driving.

I suggest you don't do that upgrade. I also have a duel model non pp. The problem I have is the traditional brake is rare used. I can see a lot of rusts on my brake disc. Most likely, your big brembo brake will just be a decoration.

I tried that Ioniq trick of switching temporarily to neutral and then braking to clean the disks - can't switch to N while driving with my PS2.

About tires:
I can give two tests on dry: 100-5 km/h premiumcontact 4 34,2 m and primacy 4 34,7 m and 80-5 km/h 21,53 m and 21,91 m. So here - non performance SM vs DM - the difference could and should be tire and weight. (Toyo proxes comfort tire managed 100-5 in 36,8 m; on wet 80-5 km premiumcontact 24,2, primacy 24,4 and Toyo 29,4)

I don't think sportcontact can cut 3 meters off, but maybe 1 m, then 1 m for brakes and 1 m for adjustable chocks set to optimal braking. I don't doubt you could tune öhlins to be more comfortable, but possibly worse grip and longer braking.

Some people drive all season tires all year round with 5-10 meters longer braking in dry and wet roads. Or buy cheap linglongs, because they cost half of what real tires do. Also, low fuel/electricity consumption eco tires seem to be bad on wet - 20 - 30 % longer braking distance when compared to regular tire - event that Toyo is a lot better - no wonder my Ioniq with oem eco tires makes noises like in american movies. And you can't really floor it, because there is no grip. But hey, even if you try to floor it, it remains under 15 kWh/100 km.

I prefer paying for good parts rather than recover later in hospital. Had I known PS2 performance is this much better at braking I would have taken the preconfig with this package.

So understand the PP wasn’t just brakes, but tires, wheels and suspension that work together. Without one, the other one doesn’t work properly.

I will agree 99 percent of your braking is done with regen and 90 percent of us P* owners will be just fine with that. Being that said, some of us wanted more because we use our cars on tracks or in my case windy mountain roads. In both situations, the PP is so nice. My brakes have been smoking after mountain runs with no fading. If your just on the main streets or highway driving the normal P* brakes are great.

Now I try to keep up on all the new and aftermarket parts for our cars and I have not seen a pad or disc upgrade yet.

P.S. Brembo calipers do look good though.

I know for one set sold in Norway.

4 calipers, 4 discs, brake pads and the brake shields behind the discs.

About 1.800 USD.

I have thought of buying the set but you will also need new wheels. As from wat I’ve heard they neither fit the stock 19 and 20 inch so I would have to buy 2 sets of PP wheels which makes it to expensive to my taste.

Beyond cosmetic and 'other' less quantifiable reasons...'big' brakes will have one significant improvement over standard ones, and that's the ability to dissipate heat. The standard brakes are more than capable of locking the wheels...but of course the ABS won't let that happen, so you have to ask yourself what improvement are you actually getting? For road use, I'd argue none whatsoever as you won't be reaching the point of suffering brake fade on public highways with standard brakes unless you are driving like an absolute hooligan. If you want to track the car, buy the Performance pack.

Although I am mystified why anyone would want to track a 2 ton behemoth like the P*2!

If you want to drive faster, get good tyres and some driving lessons.

If you just want to pose, go right ahead and spend your cash on it - no judgement here.
