Is this an OTA upgrade or do we have to drop the car in a service center ? I enjoy the car since Friday with software 1.1.8, but suffer from black screens and consequently have to push the reset button more than once a day...

is there a way to force the update from the car?

No.

Once an update is released to OTA, it's released in batches. Sometimes you'll be early on, sometimes you'll be later on.

And since you're new to Polestar (or at least new to this forum), the usual cadence is that Polestar will release an update to the workshops first. It will stay that way for about 2 weeks. If no issues arise from that roll out, they'll then begin pushing that release OTA for the remaining cars.

There have been some exceptions where the release is only via the workshop, but they'll usually announce those as such.

Since over the air updates can take a while, my car wouldn't even had 1.1.8 yet over the air, so 1.1.11 would take weeks to arrive. Tomorrow morning they will do it at a Volvo dealer :)

They gave me a choice of 1.1.8 delivered this Friday or 1.1.11 delivered Monday. I’m not sure what difference a day makes, but happy to give it to them. They advised 1.1.11 was not OTA so don’t fancy taking it back later if I can avoid it.

Good luck all.

Really worrying that they give conflicting information about 1.1.11 being OTA or not,.. :/
Because every update is exclusive to works shops first. I think there's confusion from workshops that aren't making that clear, and from new to Polestar owners who are unaware that's how Polestar rolls out their updates.

Unless there was something about 1.1.8 that disabled the ability to receive OTAs, then you can rest assured that 1.1.11 and/or the following updates will be made available via OTA and you'll be fine.

My car got updated to 1.1.11 in the workshop.

Unfortunately the error is still persistent and they still do not know the cause, hence no solution in sight...
Which error is still persistent for you?

PS told me the error relates to the disconnection of the drive train, the error is persistent, will not go away and it is unclear if this is SW or HW related, which would require replacement. Asking for more details every time I talk to PS there are not able to give. Error logs etc are al being shared with HQ in Sweden, but to date no progress at all.

So the Volvo dealer upgraded me to 1.1.11 this morning, the whole process took longer than they expected, almost 90 minutes instead of 30-45 minutes.

Locking on leaving is now greyed out in the settings.
And for the rest no real difference, presence alarm went off once.
Screens haven't blacked out yet.
No option to fold the mirrors on locking yet.

So I guess not really worth the dealer visit? Unless presense alarm is a bit improved... but if still unreliable I guess?

Just got this from Polestar support in a reply on a bug report:

(translated from Dutch)
I have good news about the availability of updates. In the course of next week, we expect to have at least another version at our service points, in which hopefully as many problems in the software as possible will be solved. Unfortunately, I cannot say anything about what exactly will and will not be included in this update.
Personally I'm going to wait until this one arrives OTA, 1.1.11 is pretty stable. (unless it contains a lot of new stuff)
