The way Polestar numbers the software versions is so bizarre! I am really beginning tto wonder who is in charge, what sort of bozo? My car is in for a scheduled look at all of the catastrophic things that have occurred to the car in the 9 months I have had it. The service people had no idea if the new software is even truly available in the US.I had it installled today! Coincidence cause it was planned for the callback today.
Picking it up eod.
Why do you think it's bizarre? It's a relatively standard way of versioning. The way Polestar numbers the software versions is so bizarre! I really do feel as if I m=]am a guinea pig, calling me a beta tester is too much of an understatement! I am a stock owner, i plan to write to the CEO and ask WTF is going on!
Is that key card linked to your profile along with the PAK?So I just picked the car up with 1.4.12 and it opened with digital key right away which for me normally happens about 1 out of 3 approaches.
Carplay was immediately connected which it didn't most of the times; also good. And the screen actually seemed to pick up where I was in my phone but that might be a coincidence.
One thing I didn't like (but did expect) is that I left the car at the shop with my keycard which obviously is linked to my account. So the seat was completely messed up by the mechanic and I had to manually get it back to what I think it once was. So 'seat' memory still is 'no' memory because when you change it it thinks it's your new preference...
Long drive tomorrow so we'll see if I'll notice differences.
@nbvolksYou mean are both my PAK and keycard linked? Yes they are. And so is the keyfob (empty somewhere in the house)
is it standard to go from 1.3.18 to 1.4.12? I guess the move from .3 to .4 is usual to someone in the engineering filed, but to us lay people, we would have expected th next update to have been 1.3.19? That is really irrelevant, since the numbering has no effect on my car. It is the fact that if the version is available and corrects all of the problems I have had over the past 9 months, why was it not made available to me already? Is this really good customer care? Why do you think it's bizarre? It's a relatively standard way of versioning.
Optimism is good. However, ICYMI, Volvo hosted an "Ask Me Anything Session” with the Product Lead for the EX90 on Reddit (Oct 7th). Key points that stuck out for me:Regarding the major version number update (3 to 4): it may not just be about visible features; I’d like to think this was a huge architectural upgrade to position the system for Orin and a faster, more robust rollout of minor updates from now on. I can hope.
Each version has the prior iterations rolled into it. So, there was a 1.3.19, but it would have been for internal testing on a particular bug, or set of bug, fixes. Assuming that version was viable it then gets rolled into 1.3.20 (assuming that version exists).is it standard to go from 1.3.18 to 1.4.12? I have one of the keycards linked to a guest profile so if I need to leave the car with a valet etc they are automatically logged into that profile. I have also added a pin to my profile so they can’t switch to that and mess up all the settings! You mean are both my PAK and keycard linked? Yes they are. But then do you need to enter that pin every time you enter the car, or only when switching between profiles?I have one of the keycards linked to a guest profile so if I need to leave the car with a valet etc they are automatically logged into that profile. I am so sorry i went with this marque!Optimism is good. However, ICYMI, Volvo hosted an "Ask Me Anything Session” with the Product Lead for the EX90 on Reddit (Oct 7th). Key points that stuck out for me:
1. RE: Orin Updates: “first half of 2026”
2. RE: Future Software Updates: "every 3 months"
To manage my own expectations, my takeaways are:
1. If expecting an Orin update to be completed in January… think end of June.
2. If expecting more frequent software updates... think every 3 months.
Of course these are direct responses from the EX90 Product Lead at Volvo, but Polestar won't be any faster/more frequent.

Thanks for that explanation. Do you work for Volvo/Polestar?Each version has the prior iterations rolled into it. The number system indicates the scale of the revision. In Volvo/Polestar's case, they use an XX.YY.ZZ structure, where historically that has meant:
But the key part for you, is that not every iteration is made available to the client, so that's why they're not directly sequential as you see them.
- XX = revisions to the Android Automotive Operating System. So when the underlying OS is updated, this number goes up by 1.
- YY = has usually referenced the introduction of new features (CarPlay, Abbey Road, etc.) and/or significant changes to the underlying software architecture.
- ZZ = basically bug fixes.
I don't, but that's generally how software versioning works, and is more specifically how Polestar has used it since they implemented this form. Thanks for that explanation. Do you work for Volvo/Polestar?
My latest, duh moment, i have a loaner while my car is being 'serviced" and i plugged it in to charge it. When I went to unplug it, hit the button, the receptacle turned red and would not unplug. I did this a few times then realized all i had with me was the card the dealer gave me when i took the loaner home. When i unlocked the car with the card, on the drivers door, i was then able to unplug the car. I emphasized on the drivers door, because i went to the supermarket to lick up a few things and then was sort of boxed into a space. I tried to unlock the car with the card on the passenger side, it did not work! So apparently there is only one receiver, and that is in the front of the door handle on the driver's side only.
This is getting beyond simple frustration.I don't, but that's generally how software versioning works, and is more specifically how Polestar has used it since they implemented this form.
And yes, the NFC reader is in the driver's door handle only.
The NFC reader being only in the driver's door handle isn't that weird. The key card is meant as a backup. In the SPA cars the only handle with the hidden key-lock/key-cylinder is the driver's door handle. If you think of the key card the same way as the back-up key that was hidden in the old keyfobs, then it makes sense. This is getting beyond simple frustration.
They don’t intend you to drive with the keycard except in emergencies or valet situations. It’s intended to be Phone as a Key as the primary interface to the car, just like Tesla. And that is the easiest way to use the car…This is getting beyond simple frustration.
That is how i used to consider it, always had it in my wallet. but then it screwed up at the parking lot, and is all they gave me for the loaner. The NFC reader being only in the driver's door handle isn't that weird.
