So, thinking of the Michelin Cross Climate 2 for an all weather tire, maybe for all year, but hating the lack of a spare tire and wheel, especially for longer trips.

Wondering if anyone here has thought of buying a spare tire wheel for 'get me home/get me to the tire shop' scenarios that is optimized for cost and weight. Not a mini, a full size (20") wheel for the Performance pack, but then just any old tire. Heck, I could put one of the stock tires on it.

Thoughts?

My goal is to have a spare, minimize weight and cost. Buying a 5th cross climate doesn't make sense because they are directional.

My other thought was to get a more serious repair kit with plugs and so forth, and just risk it, but yeah. Not sure.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Picking up my 2022 Performance/Plus/Pilot next week I hope here in Denver, Co.

I was thinking about this the other day. I had a puncture, but fortunately the tire inflator got me home. For longer drives it would be nice to have a spare donut to throw on there in case it happens again. Anybody got a link to a donut that will fit?

EDIT: Bonus points for a donut that will also fit a VW ID4 RWD.

Anyone tried this? Shop Universal Spare Wheels & Accessories Online - EZ Spare Wheel
20”x5” Spare Tire/Wheel for 5 Lug Wheel Fits 18”, 19”, 20” & 21” Wheel Vehicles

That link is for a 20" (claims it fits Tesla Model 3 Performance) - not sure about the breaks, but given it may fit a 21" wheel as well, it might be worth a try.
Looks like that might work. Good find. Wow, 58 pounds weight like carrying around an extra third grader in the back.

I guess any sparewheel for (at least newer) Volvos will fit Polestar (non PP). I'm thinking of using my Volvo- sparewheel when I'll get my Polestar. I'm still wondering if I'll get PP- version or standard.

I bought my original Volvo- sparewheel from scrapyard and its like new (never used).

I now have a spare wheel/tire for long trips and in the event of a flat at home. I picked up a 4-Y 20" PP wheel from VIVA as the price was much better than the $1380 plus tax the space quoted me. I have a Pirelli PZero All Season spare, same type as installed on my P2. I got the front version of the wheel at 8" so will work either way if needed. This way I'm not limping down the highway on a donut at 80km/h and if I need to get a tire replaced/patched I can bring in just the wheel and not the whole car.

I am glad you guys have the same concern as me, I was also chocked to see no space to place the tire, I would definitely spare the frunk for that purpose for instance. I had a puncture the other day in my regular commute that was not fixable and the spare tire would definitely save my life. Instead, I had to call a towing service which overcharge me cuz they had to use the dolly for some reason (maybe to charge me more, I am still not sure), the thing is I still 2 days later unable to use the car cuz I need a new tire, which I am now going to have to get as a spare, but still, I have no room to place it neither in the front nor the back below the trunk space. I know the engines are there... but still, non practical for emergencies.

Now on longer trips I will have to make room for a tire on the trunk I am most definitely screwed if an emergency occurs.

Careful with that, if the tire is totally flat the tire will be unrepairable since lateral damage on the internal threads of the tire might occurred. That is what happened to another tire of mine in one case.
If you are in the middle of nowhere that is fine as a solution as long as you know that you will have to ditch that tire once at your place.

Very similar to the one I bought for my 2025 SMLR Modern Spare Tire. Easily tied down with the hooks in the trunk and the carry case makes it easy to take out when extra space is required. I go to many places where cell signals are spotty at best so I don’t want to rely exclusively on roadside assistance.
