Vibration on Acceleration

2022 PS2: Noticing slight vibration in steering wheel and floor upon rapid acceleration. Occurs at all speeds but more pronounced > 100 kmh. It happens in the initial second or two of acceleration then subsides somewhat while still accelerating. I’ve seen other posts about vibrations and have balanced the wheels and turned off traction control and lane assist, but issue persists. Anyone else experience this?

With the single motor variants, the front end gets a little lively under hard acceleration, mostly because of the lack of 400kg of engine under the bonnet to pin the wheels to the road. Not sure I would call it vibration but the steering wheel gets a lot of movement on it at that time. Is that what you mean or is yours more specific?

Yes I’ve noticed this too on my DMLR. Under full acceleration there is a light flutter or vibration felt from the steering wheel and through the footwell. It’s not something that I’m particularly concerned about so haven’t reported it to Polestar CS but it’s definitely there.

I don’t think it’s wheel balancing or suspension geometry related because it goes as soon as you lift off of full power and the car is completely smooth at any speed once you do this. My guess is it’s something to do with the front motor and/or drive shafts, and I’ve just chalked it down to a trait rather than a major issue that needs addressing. Maybe I’m wrong…

I was literally thinking of posting the same question to the forum. My 2023 DMLR PPP has done this since day one. Starting around 15MPH through 50MPH or so, there is an obvious vibration through the steering wheel and seat under any type of significant acceleration. Above 50MPH, it's smoot as glass. I've been meaning to speak to the service department about it, but I've just not had time... It's not bad, more annoying than anything else...

Mine does that too - 2023 model, dual motor.
But why is it ok?

I can (sort of) understand under full acceleration, starting from a lower speed. Even in that case, it would probably make sense if the "rubber shreds", right? Spinning the wheels & all of that. So you get the wheels spinning out of control for a couple of seconds causing the vibration.

But how about when accelerating slightly? For example, increasing from 60mph to 70mph but not full throttle.

Just to clarify, the fluttering sensation I reported in an earlier post is definitely not wheelspin. I'm confident it's drive train related.
I agree it's not really okay for this to be a trait, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't bother me that much.

The front and rear tires deform differently under acceleration due to the difference in wheel width.
This would be more pronounced if the inflation pressures are not correct.
Is anyone who is running same widths front and rear experiencing the issue?

I took mine (2022 LRDM) into the Toronto space about this issue. They said there was nothing wrong with the car and, per the PS Forum, it’s a trait of the car - leave it the PS forum to define what is an is not a problem 😂🥲 I also reported it to the Montreal space. They seem to be taking the issue more seriously as the vibration under acceleration is more pronounced with winter tires. In Quebec winter tires are mandatory 4 months per year. They said they are talking to Polestar HQ about it but no resolution as of yet.

Wanted to chime in here. I've been experiencing some vibrations as well, definitely on hard acceleration but also right around the 32mph mark... Even just accelerating normally. It's not a violent vibration by any means, but can definitely be felt as the drive unit is ramping up.

At speed and cruising there's no issues. I brought this up to the service center and they ended up opening a case to get this addressed. Based on their opinion it's likely the axles. Not sure I agree, but I guess we'll see.

I picked up my LRSM P2 on June 22nd and I took the car up to Whistler for my cousins wedding. I noticed the high frequency vibration and it is not acceptable or normal. It is particularly noticeable and bothersome between 94-105km/h. It is strongest under load, you feel it through the steering wheel and chassis. It is felt while accelerating and regen. I tried the ESC sport, different regen modes etc, no difference. Makes for an unpleasant and unrefined road trip experience and more of a trait of a sub-par compact car rather than a premium product. Something tells me it isn't wheel balancing or tires as it isn't a shake per-se. Possibly alignment (excessive toe)? My car has around 450km now and it will be going in to service within the week. I surely hope it is not the drive motor....

Hi all, looking online it seems you have / had the same issue with the Polestar steering wheel vibrating between 95-105 kmph. After a few trips to the garage they have identified it’s a production error. I was wondering how they solved it for you, or if they did. To help me prepare for my discussion with them where I want it replaced. They fixed it in the my24 I understood from the garage.

Update - the drive shafts were replaced and the vibration issue is resolved !

When I picked it up they told me that my car now feels "like all of the others" which is a sideways way of saying that some vibration is "normal".

My own experience is that whatever vibration remains is not noticeable unless you're really really trying to notice it, and even then it is barely detectable. I'd say it's 1% of what it was when I brought it in.

Long story short - my car is fixed and I could not be happier.

Top marks to the people at Vancouver Polestar service. They took the issue seriously from the jump, spent the day with Polestar diagnosing the issue, fixed the car, and then washed the car. It took a few days for the parts to arrive, and as it happens I was out of town for that time so I left the car with them. It took a week to turn it around but I could have picked it up and driven it while I was waiting for parts instead.
