People often vent their gripes with their car on these forums, and my biggest (only) one would definitely have to be the lack of a winter tire/wheel package. My 2022 Polestar 2 with Performance Package came with 20” low-profile, run flat, “summer” tires. Ask any tire shop and they’ll tell you that these things are a real nightmare to swap on and off every season. Therefore, I looked into getting a second set of wheels for my winter tires and discovered that nobody makes an aftermarket set that truly fits properly. A second factory set would run me $6500. Insane. I decided to roll the dice and bring my car to a local Town Fair Tire. Of course I let them know the value of the rims, but they still wound up scratching the lip on all four. I got all four reburbushed (they paid the bill) and spoke to my local Polestar dealership before the new seasonal tire swap needed to be performed. The dealership told me they had a “touchless” tire changing machine and that they would be able to do the swap every season without damaging the rims - for $260! I bit the bullet and went with them. Guess what - they scratched 3 out of 4 rims! Awesome. I complained to corporate and got a second set of factory wheels for $4000. Still crazy expensive but better than the $6500 original price. Anyhow, the situation is crappy regardless, but at least now I can do the tire changes myself each season.
Just curious what y’all out there in my situation do. The guy at the rim refurbishing place said that “touchless” tire changing machines don’t exist that that wheels need to be taped off and worked on by a tech that cares or they’ll inevitably get destroyed over time. He also does not recommend using aftermarket wheels that don’t fit properly - it’s really asking for trouble.
Why can’t Polestar just make a winter tire/wheel pack? It would save everyone time and trouble and prevent folks like me from constantly bitching and complaining to them!
