Hi All, Just picked up a preowned '22 polestar 2 SM. I set the app up on my phone thinking it would be much better to use than have to carry a key as well, however, I've noticed that even with the app closed and my phone turned off , the car will still unlock and drive away.
Is there some setting, as with most apps, where you can request a security protocol before the car accepts the phone signal?

I appreciate the circumstances are highly unlikely, but if I droppped/lost my phone anyone can use it to take the car as well

Thank you in advance

You can turn the digital key feature on/off in the app. I always have mine off unless I intend to use the phone as key, where I turn it on and it takes about 5 sec. to become active.
If the digital key slider in the app is on the ON position, then your phone is a key. If you drop/lose one of the key fobs anyone can take it to take the car as well.

That's why you have the option to use your phone as a key or not. Different people will have different choices on the pros and cons.

Thank you for your reply, that makes sense. Unfortunately I don’t see an on off slider in my app (iPhone 14 pro) by clues as to where that might be. Thanks again

Keep in mind that if your digital key is turned off, when you turn it back on it needs to get online to authenticate before it can become active again. So if you have no signal, you won't be able to reactivate the key and will lose access to your car. However, if you leave the digital key on at all times, you'll be able to unlock the car even when you have no access to they internet.

The manual says the phone has to be within an arm’s length of the door… have you checled to see how far away you can be and someone can still open the door?

I have found PAK often works better when the phone is closer to the shark fin antenna/rear of the vehicle to gain entry. On a good day, it works best when I keep it in the pocket closest to the door.

My phone works very reliably to unlock the car at any of the four doors (phone in pocket). It does not work at all for opening the trunk with either the button or the foot sensor regardless of where I hold the phone. If I unlock the car at one of the doors I can use the button on the trunk to open it.

Once in the car, I can only engage a gear if I hold the phone low in the drivers footwell. Once I’m in “drive mode” I can put the phone into the space in the console, although had a moment this morning when my wife got out of the car at work and the car thought the key had gone with her so had to move the phone back into the footwell to go again. Going to setup my wife’s phone later to see if that is any better/different.

Mine is exactly the same and has been since I have had the car back in December - If I have a passenger get out and open any door, the message about the key not be found comes up, but you can ignore it and still drive as normal.

I have given up on the PAK working as intended, however I still always use PAK as I prefer to carry no key, but I really would love one day for a software update in the car to magically fix the issues you mention, that I also have - not being able to operate the boot, especially the kick function is very frustrating - as is not being able to leave my phone in a bag/pocket and get in and drive without holding the phone in footwell first :ROFLMAO: - two bookings to the local Volvo, and a their Polestar "specialist" could offer no fix, and told me that Polestar are aware of this issue, helpful.

Wife’s phone now setup and exactly the same results. Others seem to have no problems at all with PAK so I don’t believe this to be a software issue, there must be a Bluetooth radio strength / position problem in my opinion. Question is, lots of folks on here seem to have similar experience, has anyone ever tried to get anything done about it under warranty? The manual clearly states that PAK should essentially work in the same way as the keys (should just need to have it on your person), including operating the trunk via the kick sensor, so we appear to have faulty modules. I think I might raise it with the lease company as I would really like this functionality to work as advertised…
