Had the propulsion system service required error, was not able to shift the car in to gear. Had to "Turn Car off" via the infotainment screen ( soft reset of infotainment screen did not work), lock the car and came back in after couple of minutes and was then able to shift the car in to gear but, the error remained. Charged the car to 80% over night and the next morning the error was gone. Called polestar to report, polestar insisted to tow it to the nearest space. Austin space kept it for two weeks and was told that they need a CMOS sensor to replace and part was on shortage, I was given an Chevy Malibu as a rental and I hated it to drive.

Finally called polestar and told them that they have 16 more days before I will initiate lemon law claim based on a 30 day rule ( 30 days does not count if they gave you a comparable loaner) but in my case, not a comparable loaner.

Polestar Austin called me same day and said that they have the part available right away and are going to change it the same day, they sent my car back the following Monday.

I believe that this might be a software issue or a sensor issue and I honestly do not think that Austin Space did anything. If the error is gone, don't worry about it ( But definitely get a record started with space just in case for future reference and warranty/ Class Action purposes). If it returns, then that might indicate something serious is going on.
Dealer called me yesterday and told me that my CMOS sensor needs to be replaced and the part is on back order until July. I have a gas drinking suv as a loaner. Pretty bummed

Ran into this problem this morning with our 2021 Polestar 2 (VIN …06xxx). While I hoped it was just a software glitch, attempting to drive the car more than a few feet caused it to stutter and shake, and so off it went to the Marin shop. It sounds like it won't be until mid-next week they'll have time to diagnose the problem.

While I'm grateful the workshop set me up with a loaner from Enterprise, I'm also realizing just how spoiled I've become with both the power and convenience of our cars. The sole Hyundai Tucson Enterprise had is definitely no match for the hills of San Francisco!

Mine had the stuttering too, it would randomly reduce torque every few seconds, but by the time I arrived at the dealer the error and symptoms were gone!

They just shrugged it off as a software glitch, did a software update and an hour later handed the car back. Nearly 10k miles and a year later it never happened again!

Good luck and I hope you get your cars back quick

On the plus side you still live in a very very nice part of SF. Sorry about your car.

A small update: it turned out to be a software issue and Polestar Marin was able to return the car this past Tuesday. As a small aside, was very pleased with the service this time around.

By the time they had a chance to diagnose the car on Monday, the problem had gone away. They were able to read the diagnostics on the car to confirm the errors: IHFA-P06C04 (Internal Control Module Main Processor Performance) and IHFA-P0A7A48 (Generator Inverter Performance Supervision Software Failure). Looks like the fix was to reload the software and verify the following day.

Hopefully this was just a rare instance and isn't something others will deal with.

Glad it was just s software glitch.

In my case they found nothing in the logs to indicate a problem had occurred, which is concerning, especially considering it had issues maintaining stable torque while driving. All I had for proof that I wasn’t wasting their time was a photo of the error message!

In any case no issues with that for a year now.

Had this error come on during one drive today in my PP car, which perhaps coincidentally was updated to 2.2 last week. No perceptible other change in the car. And the error was gone without a trace at the next start.

will ignore this one time.
not exactly confidence inspiring.

I had some random error appear yesterday, something to do with the parking sensors or something, then disappear again within seconds. This was on the first drive after updating to 2.2, not seen since.

Today this happened to me, car wouldn’t go into gear. Was able to get it going with resets but got the propulsion service warning.
Seems to drive fine but it is waiting for Volvo Marin to send a tow to pick it up.
Still, great to hear the service was a good experience for You.

Add me to the list that have experienced this problem. There is clearly a mass software issue with these cars. There's no way all of us actually have propulsion system failures. Polestar has a long way to go in the software department. The reliability of this vehicle leaves a lot to be desired. I'm also not letting them off the hook for being a new brand, because they aren't. Volvo has been building cars for a very long time, and should be better than this.

What about sister cars (xc40 and c40) do they have the same propulsion system failures?

Got the :
Drive to Workshop
Propulsion System
Service Urgent

warning message this morning. Car now with local Volvo dealer. Very annoying as it was just there 6 days ago getting the eCall error fault fixed which knocked out most of the infotainment system. These problems all seem tos them from charging the car to 100% for the first time.

I got this message on my brand new car the day after I picked it up. Less than 100km on the car.. It clears after i click OK, and does not show up in the status check on the center display. Tried resetting the infotainment and TCAM and it dissapeared for the next ride, but then reappeares. Checked with CS and a local Volvo dealer which both say «no worries to drive around with it» and I kinda let it slide as a software bug(new car, not being driven until now basically). However, reading this thread makes me slightly worried.

Funny thing, when getting in the car after work today, the message did not pop up. It had been charging all day. The wierd thing is that the first time this message popped up was the first drive after I’d had it charging at work. 🤷🏻‍♂️
