Hmm. I thought the square part of the receiver only came in the 1.25" size. Perhaps NZ options are different, but that's the only choice I had when ordering it. I have a 2" hitch-mounted bike rack, and I have to use an adapter to 1.25" to mount it but want to go native without the adapter and am looking at getting a new 1.25" hit-mounted rack.

Don't understand what your dimensions are referring to, the insert into the hidden receiver or the towball diameter.

Our dealer fitted hidden receiver towbar fitting has a square insert (about 2") and the towball has a locking pin that can slide out for removal with 2 choices of ball diameter (2" or 1 7/8"). When in use the trailer couple prevents the sliding 'lock' pin from escaping. Great system and preferable to the retracting factory towbar which is 2" and therefore of no use for the far more common domestic 1 7/8" coupling we have here in New Zealand.
Here in the USA, we only get a 1.25" receiver even though most other vehicles and hitches are 2". In my case, I had to purchase a receiver adapter so that I can attach my bike rack which has a 2" fitting, and also, so that I can tow up to 2000lbs, I had to purchases an OEM Polestar hitch with a 2" ball which was over $200 from the dealer.

Having just checked I can confirm the NZ dealer supplied hitch has a 2"/50mm receiver. A 1.25" receiver seems deficient for a 1.5 tonne tow rating surely.

One other comment regarding towing is the terrible rear visibility of the Polestar2 when backing a trailer. I regularly take our tandem axle trailer (4.5' x 8') down to a local brewery to collect spent grain mash for cattle feed. Even though the trailer is almost as wide as the car (including mudguards) backing it using only the wing mirrors is hopeless as the trailer only becomes visible once it has gone off course beyond the point of correcting it. In order to manoeuvre the trailer back to the brew kettle requires opening the back hatch and removing the rear compartment cover so I can see back through the car.

We only get a 1.25" receiver here in the USA. Apparently it is not deficient if you buy a hitch with a 2" ball from Polestar. It says on the hitch that the limit is 2000lbs. If you instead use a receiver adapter and then put a 2" hitch on that, you would not be able to use that for towing but only for bike racks etc.

I bought a Fiat 500e but it has some issues so I've been using the P2 to tow it from purchase place to home, then again to a garage. I rented a car hauler and winched the Fiat 500e onto it. I'm at the limit of the European rating of 1500kg. I did talk to a UHaul rep who said with my P2 and the braked trailer it should be fine to move the Fiat 500e according to their max towing calculations.

The P2 is barely affected by the trailer, it feels a bit heavier and noisy but there is only a small impact on my range, about 20-30% decrease.

With the 500e on the trailer, adding a lot of weight and acting like a giant sail, it does really drop. I started the morning with 78% charge (about 250km) I picked up the trailer from uHaul, drove 40km at highway speeds to pickup the fiat. Then drove back with the fiat on the trailer. I dropped the car off, did a person pickup 10km away and back with the trailer, then dropped off the trailer and went home. I saw about a 50% reduction in range with the fiat on the trailer.
I drove about 90-100km overall. Got home with about 90-100km range left.

With the Fiat 500e on the trailer, at one point I had to drive uphill from a stop, up a significant hill, accelerating to 80km/hr before merging onto the highway. The car feels heavy but not underpowered. It drives well at max load.

My overall feeling is that the P2 can definitely haul things, just bank on a 50% decrease in range.

Hey folks, Just got the Polestar OEM hitch receiver slapped onto my P2 about a week ago in Toronto. My main aim was to haul bikes with a hitch rack, but I'm also eyeing using it for a light utility trailer down the road. Got a couple of queries. First up, bike hauling. Planning to tote four bikes - two for adults, two for the kiddos. Wondering if it's reliable for longer highway hauls. The P2 hitch says max 4 bikes, but it's 1 1/4", so I reckon it's just a class I deal. Weight-wise, I should stay under the max tongue weight of 90 kg/200 lbs with the rack and all bikes. Any other concerns or experiences with four-bike hauls on this hitch? Second, future towing adventures. Realized I didn't get the full lowdown during the install frenzy. Just got the receiver, no tow ball. Figured I'd snag a 2” ball since it seems standard. But what about lights and other necessities? Appreciate any insights, especially since I'm a towing newbie stateside. Used to tow back in Europe, but it's been ages since I moved to Canada 20 years ago. Cheers for entertaining my queries!

Mine came with the tow ball and bag to contain it. As for lights and power the oem hitch has the four-pin plug right next to the hitch receiver. I can only carry two bikes on my bike rack, and it seems pretty solid. I have no experience with four bikes.

Obligatory picture…

Please scratch the question about the tow ball - found it tucked away in a bag in the space underneath the trunk. They included it with the install, my bad for not spotting it earlier. They didn't mention it, and I totally missed it in my rush. LOL 🤦‍♂️

Found an after market wiring kit available in Australia for our cars that they say can talk to the cars computer.

Polestar 2 Trailer Wiring Harness (7-pin) — EV Stealth Solutions

I'm super curious if it will work with US cars. The US trailer plug is different, but that's an easy thing to resolve vs the cars electronics communication.
I'm curious about this too - they also seem to have a different version of the stealth hitch with extra "hooks" for I'm guessing chains or cables.

Well just a picture of what it looks like when you are installing it, I installed it myself, took less 2 hours from start to finish, you have to take half of the rear end apart, not to difficult following the more than 50 page Polestar instructions, eventhough I found it easier to take the rear lights out, it said to leave them in but it was easier to unscrew a screw than risking of breaking a clip, only managed to break one clip in the process. So funny all over when you take the car apart it says Volvo made in china, even the parts for the towhook all come in volvo boxes. If you buy it from Volvo/polestar everything is plug and play, the harness in the car is already prepared for the electronics, only thing left for me to do after was make an appointment at the polestar service center to get the software installed, as we in Europe don't have acces to Vida updates as the Us customers.

how do we access the 50 page instructions? I would like to move my tow hitch from my 2021 Launch Edition to my 2024 RWD Long Range. Makes more sense on the longer range car for us and I'm trying to make my 2021 lighter.

We hired a freezer unit to deal with some home killed beef last weekend. Picked up and returned to a local business but enough towed distance to ascertain that longer distance towing would have resulted in <200km of battery range from our SRSM. I suspect sustained highway speeds would result in less than that due to the 'box' aerodynamics of this ~1 tonne trailer unit.

Our PS2 towed it with ease though definitely aware of that much towed weight on acceleration and handling. Trailer had a hydraulically activated tow hitch.

I got the dealer to fit the towbar when I bought it seems they just cut a hole or took a panel out the bottom of the car so the tow ball can drop down. I’m only going to use it a few times a year and looks like it will collect dirt and muck. Is it worth covering the opening and if so can you get a panel to fit?
