I hear the same noise. It only happens while actually slowing down using only regen. And I only hear it at very low speeds, just before stopping. It's faint, but it almost sounds like a playing card being held into the spokes of a spinning bicycle wheel.
The sound disappears when getting off the brake (or pushing the accelerator pedal, in OPD mode). So it isn't something mechanical related to tires or wheels.
I'm really glad I found this thread. I believe I may be hearing the same thing. For me it is also when slowing only using regen. breaking at slow speeds. I notice it most at the first stop sign when leaving in the morning. I would describe it as a very equally intervaled light clicking like a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle. Tick.....tick.....tick..... Possibly with every full rotation of the wheels. Just like a stone caught in the tread of my tire but I know mine are clean.
To me mine sounds like the rear right side. Either I'm in a noisier environment later in the day and don't notice or it is only when I first start driving.

I don’t hear any clicking or tapping in my P*2, but my wife’s new C40 does. It’s definitely related to regen as the set of clicks happens when the energy bar switches from consumption to regen.

Anyone has given service a call on the relay clicking noise during Regen? I JUST got off a call with service, the SA was very knowledgeable to the "relay noise under steering column during regen". He said he drove a few P2, and they all have that, and it happens when the car is warm up (just like mine). He said that's normal for these.

Now if I can't stand these clicking, I may have to disable my OPD or use it less.

I think there are two distinct kinds of clicking. One is the intermittent relay noise from somewhere under the dash/steering column, the other is a regular "tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick" which sounds like it's coming from the back of the car (rear motor assembly) on decellaration. The first is certainly normal, the second maybe not. I have both but the noise from the rear is faint enough not to bother me (yet). If it gets worse I'll report it to CS and will certainly do so before end of warranty.

Have you noticed the ticking from the rear disappearing after a bit of driving?

Yes (and no). I have not systematically investigated this, but my guess is that it has something to do with the temperature. It does seem to go away after some city driving (i.e., lots of starts and stops), and it seems most noticeable in the winter right at the beginning of a drive.

That would equate to my experience: Colder= more clicking. More recently I have heard it also after driving for a bit.

One year and 9,000 miles in, I am hearing the clicking noise. Does service have a fix or acknowledge it needs fixing? When I have OPD on, regular braking still produces the sound, its much fainter, but does not eliminate it. I hear the tick-tick tick sound only in the morning and through the first few braking sessions. Again, for me, if I let OPD bring the car to a stop on its own, it does not click or tick.

I wonder if this is some sort of relay that engages the friction brakes when blended braking requires more than regenerative can provide. Just a guess of course. I don't use OPD, and I also don't have any clicking sound. Probably unrelated.

mine is doing the same thing at low speeds when braking it sounds like a rotational chatter sound. Best way was already described where there's a playing card between the wheel. It's coming from the rear of the car on the right side. Opd is off. I have a post on the Facebook owners form I'll drop the link once I get it. and no it's not the relay's

Mines doing the same it's in right now for this.

here's the link to my video for the sound

That is Exactly! What I hear. Nicely done. Now just need to figure out what the heck is going on.
I don't think there is any additional resistance. Reason I say that is the other day I accidentally had my car in neutral and figured it was in drive. It rolled so smoothly and quickly down the driveway I didn't even know I wasn't in drive until I was on the road.

Yup! That's the precise noise I hear too.

How do you control which side gets pressured? Also - I have a service appointment tomorrow morning. Has anyone had any type of service that solved the problem? Finally, my impression is I can only hear the clicking for the first three or four braking events of the day and not thereafter (for a while anyway)
