Update:

New GHCA arrived this morning (10/2) and has been installed. But now the car is throwing a previously unseen electrical system fault, and the shop is chasing that down.

Ugh.....
Too bad! Hopefully it's just software...

No way. Will be very curious what the discover, if there's actually an issue.

I just gave my list of demands to Polestar last night. Paraphrasing: tow my car back to me by Monday, pay my DC charging until the service center has the part in hand at which point tow it back to service (and give me a loaner/rental) once the part has been received. Meanwhile my service center can't seem to locate a plan for the part that is now 1 day overdue... But Customer Service told me that "parts were delivered this week" and I'm not sure if they meant to my SC or to the US in general...

They stated earlier this week that they won't make a goodwill determination on the subject of lease payment reimbursement until the repair is completed. Makes no sense, and I'm not impressed.

Yet another update...

Now the car is supposedly done, but they can't release the car because the tech needs to send the data logs to Polestar in order to finalize the case, and they saying that now won't be done until Monday. Come on!

At that rate, why not keep it until Tuesday and make it an even 50 straight days in the shop this time around? 🤦‍♂️

Does that mean they solved the error at least?

Glad to hear that the part finally came in and they will hand it over. I still haven't heard a peep from Polestar, but mine went in to the Boston service center Aug 27. Fingers crossed that it is one more week.

Such a bummer @nbvolks! The weekend seems SO long when you're waiting for something like that. In case it gives you any hope for when you do get your car back, mine is still going strong 2 weeks post-delivery after replacing the GHCA. I hope you have the same experience after you get yours back. I've been charging as needed at home (Level 2) and it's been great. Also, the 1.3.18 software update seems to have fixed every one of the issues I had previously, and those issues haven't come back. Knock on wood, but I haven't had to do any resets either.

There are two little niggles that I believe are new (or I didn't experience them previously), which 1.3.18 is exhibiting.
  1. The Spotify app sometimes displays blank/black with a cursor in the middle of the screen. It fixes itself by the time I get in for the next drive cycle without any intervention. Hopefully an upcoming software update will solve that. The song still plays and I'm able to skip forward/back/etc., but I can't get to the main Spotify page to browse my playlists, search for music, etc. The workaround is that I just end up using Spotify on my phone if I need to in those cases for the rest of that particular drive cycle/session.
  2. Sometimes when a call comes in or when I make a call, the bluetooth connection doesn't project to my car speakers/mic - I can neither hear the person on the other end, nor can they hear me. The workaround is to quickly flip my phone to use its phone speaker instead of the bluetooth connection with the car. I have not yet determined if this is an issue with my phone (Google Pixel 9 Pro XL) or if it's with the car connection itself - it could be on the phone side. I just don't know yet.

Oh, it gets worse!

They came back and said it was going to be ready after all. I said great, and then asked SPECIFICALLY if the OTA update failure notice was cleared. The thing it originally went in for 3 MONTHS ago. "Yes, confirmed that is removed and there are no errors".

Drive into the dealer, clear all my settings from the loaner. Pull in, get our receipt and keys, go to our car, get in, and.....the f#@king OTA failure notice is there!!!

So now we're back in the god damn loaner which I have to set back up all over again.

I'm no expert, but it is pretty standard practice for the car to be taken for a short drive before handing over to a customer after service. Makes one wonder if they even have checklists - or whether this was (pole)axed in the "asset light" model. Sorry, couldn't resist!

It was supposedly taken on multiple different drives by different people.

It's super irritating that 90 days ago it went to fix exactly this issue. Now 90 days later, a wiring harness recall fix, complete software reload, and a 2nd GHCA replacement later....this original problem is still there.

Well, they got a shipment of 7 GHCAs on Thursday morning. One immediately went into mine. So, you've got a 1 in 6 chance that yours is also underway.

Today marks 100 total days...

4. We just take the buyout and walk away and go to another brand. Downside there is that there could be unforeseen issues with that too. Options we've mulled over:
  • Porsche Macan (smaller backseat area, but can be similarly spec'd for the price)
  • Porsche Taycan Cross-Turismo (smaller backseat area, but MUCH more expensive. Very cool though!)
  • Lucid Gravity (Higher price, plenty of room and functionality. I don't love the exterior shape and design.)
  • Cadillac Lyriq V-Edition (I like it, my wife cannot get past the Cadillac brand. I don't like the front seats or the interior color options)
  • Volkswagen ID.Buzz (VERY different vehicle. It's fun looking and drives well. Interior materials are not great. Dealer lease pricing is RIDICULOUS!)
We had a deposit on the Lucid Gravity but my wife didn't like the cupholders because they wouldn't hold the giant bottles she constantly totes around. Seems like a crazy reason to lose a sale on a $110K vehicle. She bought the Cadillac Lyriq and loves it. The only seats I like better than the Cadillac seats are the P3 seats! Car has been 100% reliable. Not a single software niggle. Nothing!

I just dumped my Rivian truck. I considered the P3 then put a deposit on a P4 but am a bit scared about Polestar. I was super close on a Taycan Cross Turismo but they have so many problems and really aren't fun at sane speeds. Macan EV was too small. Couldn't get a Lucid Air because no tow hitch for bike hauling.

After all that I bought a Volvo EX30 as an interim vehicle. Yes way too small but it is so cheap I can sell it at any time without incurring any real loss and is a way to test the Geely/Volvo/Polestar software. So far it has been decent with only a few minor flaws. The car is fun because it is small. If it had a bit more backseat room, more steering feedback and 30% more range it would be a sure keeper.

Update:

Received a call that they went back through and were able to remove the OTA lockout fault message on the update screen, and are now going to drive the car out to us.

So....what are the betting odds that it turns up with that same fault message or some other issue?

I guess you’ll find out when the next OTA comes out!

Well, the car arrived and the fault is gone and no other faults or issues are currently showing up.

Of course, it hasn't left my driveway yet and I need to go grab the kids in about 5 minutes, so there's plenty of time for it to conjure up some faults.
